Weird idle issue - padge - 09-02-2012

been like this for ages now, this is after a 28 mile trip and the car was left for about 30 mins..

i'll get a video of a first cold start tommorow and get that up, it's a proper piss take on how much it smokes..

Re: Weird idle issue - mark_airey - 09-02-2012

No sounds as at work but looks same as mine, just slightly worse as mine doesn't do it when warm, only when first started from cold until it warms up, I has no idea what is causing it as I have all but given up!

Re: Weird idle issue - Mattcheese31 - 09-02-2012

ha ha, that's not weird, that's exactly what mine does too . .lol

Sorry for the delay, been doing a "stage 1" pump tune..

anyway the video, it does that for about 10 minutes, even after a good few blasts on the revs it still dosent fully clear up..

Re: Weird idle issue - mark_airey - 09-02-2012

Hehe, thats what mine was like when I smoked out all the FCS campers in 2010, it ain't that bad any more but yeah, will clear up after 10 mins or a quick drive and is perfectly fine to drive!

Re: Weird idle issue - padge - 09-02-2012

Same here, but what causes it?

Air is the only thing I think that would cause what its doing but I have sealed the filter housing and pretty much just learnt to live with it bacause I couldn't get to the bottom of it!

Re: Weird idle issue - Seb_Ryan - 09-02-2012

Mine did this before, i just advanced the timing a bit and it sorted it.. would also smoke when coming down the revs when the temp got to 70c

Re: Weird idle issue - padge - 09-02-2012

yeah, i can calm it down by advance, but then it sounds terrible..

Re: Weird idle issue - Dan! - 09-02-2012

You got your cold start advance solenoid wired in?

Re: Weird idle issue - mark_airey - 09-02-2012

My cold start is wired in and my pump is nearly as advanced as it can go! Still does it..........

Re: Weird idle issue - padge - 09-02-2012

where abouts would this be dan?

Re: Weird idle issue - Dan! - 09-02-2012

Bottom front of the pump......

Re: Weird idle issue - mark_airey - 09-02-2012

Depends what pump he has Dan! some of them just have a blank cap where the solenoid is!

Re: Weird idle issue - Dan! - 09-02-2012

Yeah but he'l be able to tell if its go a solenoid on it or not, he's not that stupid Tongue x

Re: Weird idle issue - padge - 09-02-2012

Aye i have the solinoid at the bottom, any picture to show how its meant to be wired up?

Re: Weird idle issue - mark_airey - 09-02-2012

Just start the car and while its missing (running like shit) run a wire from the battery "+" terminal to the solenoid and see if it helps or not, if it does I will find out which wire on the Lucas pump plugs it needs wiring to Smile (I have pink in my head for some reason but I will check!)

Re: Weird idle issue - Dan! - 09-02-2012

just needs a 12v live to it when the car is cold, I think you can connect it via the glowplug relay (NOT the glowplug rail though as that is going to be very high ampage and will probably destroy the solenoid lol ) or alternatively there must be another 12v live when the cars cold, termostat housing maybe somewhere?

Just to test it though, put a bit of wire from the stop solenoid to the advance solenoid and wait til the cars stone cold again, then start it up and see if makes a difference, if it does then you can look into wiring it up permanently.

The solenoid will only take the current it wants, you can't force it to take more Smile Don't worry about connecting directly to the glow plug rail, it'll work just fine.
