Something like 128Gb external drive, Dont really know much about them but it needs to be fast and quiet so i was thinking solid state,
also it needs to be powered by the usb

you could go for a large capacity USB stick - 64GB and obviously no moving parts there!

seems harder to get external harddrives which are solid state though so youd probably have to make your own so youd need a 2.5" drive and an enclosure.

Personally Id get the usb stick as its cheap and 64GB should be sufficient storage for the majority of someones music collection. At least all the decent stuff youd actually listen to anyway!
