No power to amp - Willo - 02-05-2013

Right this ones bugging me so I'm asking for help

My amp was working fine. turned it on last night came on then went off 5 mins later. Turned out the earth had come off the amp something had dell over in the boot and caught the cable. I touched the earth to the terminal and it came on fine so I left it at that thinking ill stick that back on in the morning. So I put it back on and nothing.

I've checked the earth and changed the earth cable. Both the under bonnet fuse and the amplifier fuse appear to be intact.

a fuse on the amp or power lead?

RE: No power to amp - Willo - 02-05-2013

There is a fuse on both and both appear to be intact

RE: No power to amp - Ben Jay - 02-05-2013

have you checked the remote lead from the back of the head unit to the amp?

RE: No power to amp - Tom - 02-05-2013

Check those fuses with a multimeter, could be a dodgy one or could be a ninja fuse lol

RE: No power to amp - Willo - 02-05-2013

Ninja fuse ?
just been told that sometimes the big fuse in the power cable can go and you can't tell without changing it. It goes at the solder joint on the end on the metal strip in the middle

RE: No power to amp - Tom - 02-05-2013

Ninja fuse (i just made it up) Fuse that looks fine that actually broke lol hence testing with a multimeter Smile

RE: No power to amp - Willo - 02-05-2013

Ill have to look when I get home tonight then I've checked the remote wire that's attached good and solid

RE: No power to amp - puglove - 02-05-2013

Id replace both fuses as a starting point, if no luck bridge the remote to the live , (this will check if its the rem) if still no good your fuses were to higha amp and you over loaded the and its fooked, simples

guessing he has the head unit on to find out its not working therefor the rem from the head unit would switch the amp on Big Grin

RE: No power to amp - Slam Wagon - 02-05-2013

Just checking though. If hes expecting life by just connecting the earth and he doesnt have the keys in then he can check it all as much as he wants.

RE: No power to amp - puglove - 02-05-2013

Fair point i'll give you that Tongue

RE: No power to amp - Willo - 02-05-2013

If you mean bridge the remote to the positive on the amp I tried that and it sparks so I've got power there pretty sure it shouldn't spark though

RE: No power to amp - devils_fuel - 03-05-2013

dead amp?

RE: No power to amp - Tom - 03-05-2013

The spark is it making the connection, surely? Are you testing with a multi meter or poking wires and see which spark?

RE: No power to amp - Willo - 03-05-2013

I was bridging the remote to the positive with another wire can't get hold of a multimeter till Tuesday

RE: No power to amp - Willo - 06-05-2013
