Fuel consumption/mpg - JayDub - 20-04-2013

1999 306 TD LX Estate 1.9... Is 42.5 mpg normal with mixed urban and m/way @ 60-65 mph? I was getting 55+ from my 1.7 TD Astra Estate!

RE: Fuel consumption/mpg - Anton - 20-04-2013

Bosch pump? Tuned?

How much urban? That is low, im getting around 48.

Fuel consumption/mpg - RePT - 20-04-2013

I get 42mpg too, on diesel. 38 on veg ^_^. Mostly city driving with maybe 200 motorway miles..

RE: Fuel consumption/mpg - ozonehostile - 20-04-2013

Truck turbo xud, lower mpg than a gti6 lmao

RE: Fuel consumption/mpg - JayDub - 21-04-2013

Going by the replies and what a mechanic told me today it looks like its about normal then... Not impressed with this car at all, typical french electrical problems, wipers, interior lights, heater motor resistors AGAIN (OE replacement worked for a week and only used a few times), elec windows, central locking, alternator, all since August! - what is it with french and auto electrics? - back to a Vauxhall I suppose. Thanks guys.

Haven't done a test on just urban, but just the 240 miles mixed mpg is bad enough when it includes a motorway 180 mile round trip.

I'm sorry how?!

You must be billowing smoke...

My car at 175hp with the VNT was easily doing 55mpg on a run and when nailing it averaging about 30-35mpg...

With the GT17S it's similar, but the cruise mpg is down to about 50mpg ish...

RE: Fuel consumption/mpg - 4WayDiablo - 22-04-2013

Unfortunately averaged around 45mpg on the run to the lakes and back.
100 miles of fun driving
350 of 70-80-90 convoy driving
350 of 60-70 eco steady driving

Downside to a massively laggy blower I suppose, not burning le fuel. I stick a tenner of derv in the meatwagon and it lasts ages!

RE: Fuel consumption/mpg - Dale - 22-04-2013

The last few tank fulls now I've been on average up over 60mpg! But then again I'm lucky 25 mile each way to work with very little stopping and sat at a steady 50 most of the way! Best car I've ever had xud ftw!

its getting pretty decent mpg now, this was back when it first hit the road with the new blower, like you said, loads of smoke and generally running like shit until i figured out how to set the pump up properly. before the headgasket blew it did over 300 miles on £30 of juice which i was pleased with considering it was driving welsh mountain roads

RE: Fuel consumption/mpg - JayDub - 23-04-2013

OH well, time to get out the autotrader!

RE: Fuel consumption/mpg - chippyba - 24-04-2013

with mine i average about 650 ish to a tank

RE: Fuel consumption/mpg - martyn92 - 24-04-2013

I can get 600 miles out of a tank on the motorway at a push but usually get somewhere in the 40's for mpg on average.
However in france doing 85ish for 60 miles on the motorway up big hills, down big hills, I went through a quarter of a tank somehow... which is around 20odd mpg. Is that possible ?

RE: Fuel consumption/mpg - cwspellowe - 24-04-2013

Sounds way too low, have you checked your leakoffs and fuel lines to see if they've split? Le Ginge had split leakoffs when he visited me and was pissing fuel out.

I had a fuel return line pop off on zee motorway once and lost a good 5L or so in not very long at all.

RE: Fuel consumption/mpg - martyn92 - 24-04-2013

Yeah Ive checked them and theyre fine, checked everywhere for a leak but cant find anything. My thought is that the car was heavy at the time and 85 is around 3.5-4k revs? And I was thinking that with the gov being shimmed it was just pouring it in ?

Rofl that i almost doubled that in a '6 on the same road Tongue

RE: Fuel consumption/mpg - silverzx - 25-04-2013

Purely around town (2-8 mile trips in mostly 30mph speed limits) I'm lucky to see 35MPG!
