Basically at what point are us xud owners starting to melt stuff?

Thanks,
Anton

Over 1000 is when you need to worry

RE: Safe egt limit - Ricky - 14-04-2013

Aluminium melts around 650 degrees, so prolonged temps above this will probably start to damage things.

RE: Safe egt limit - Ruan - 14-04-2013

700-750*C really is around the maximum safe limit as far as prolonged use goes - i.e. towing up a hill for 5 miles.

Short period 800-850*C is just about acceptable, over that you're really into unknown territory - I've seen 900-950*C before now and it's VERY easy to see that - people don't realise HOW easy it is to see those sorts of temperatures!

1000*C would be 1/4 of a turn of the fuel screw too much from 850*C...

RE: Safe egt limit - anto - 14-04-2013

That sounds good ok cos im not hitting those excessive temps very often. Havent seen over 900 yet

RE: Safe egt limit - Ricky - 14-04-2013

its amazing how much a little turn on the max fuel does to the egt's, I'm a lot more careful with my pump since having a gauge.

My hdi saw 950 degrees on the nurburgring, was pushing 130mph on the main straight though, and was building to that all the way, was only at that temp for about 20 seconds.

Also worth noting that my EGT sensor is located in the manifold, before the turbo.

So???

EGT's didn't melt the aux belt causing it to be eaten by the cam belt.

lmao

or did it Confused

RE: Safe egt limit - Arron - 14-04-2013

Bad luck johnny ive shredded an aux belt but to get it caught up in timing is a bit misunfortunate... Still at least its not a rod!!

RE: Safe egt limit - ozonehostile - 14-04-2013

at least youve had the most spectacular breakdown of the year johnny. im sure theres an award in there somewhere haha

RE: Safe egt limit - pjb123 - 25-04-2013

to be clear on e g t temps turning scre w inwards gives higher egt
is that correct

RE: Safe egt limit - andywhy - 25-04-2013

More fuel = higher EGT.
