Yes, that is the edge of the carpet you can see just through the plates on the left....
I will say I was surprised how much is just butted together with seam sealer and left to the spot welds on the sill. It's not going back together like that, stick everything to everything with some stitch welding incoming...
Stonechip/seam sealer is over 10mm thick in some places, think of all the weight I've saved!

Not the first sill repair I've done on early 306's, they go by the back wheel and under the b-pillar fairly often, trouble with mine is it's done all 3 parts of the sill and the reinforcements as well - 7 new panels to let in....:/

Mine's got rust on the front and rear of the drivers sill... But it's 19 years old, so nothing major

Yeah, this was just a few little spots bubbling through and one of the rear spot welds had let go. So when you say it's nothing major - well, you might get a shock.

Its because they get dirt stuck behind the covers so you get wet salty mud sitting on the sills for literally years. Perfect way to rot metal! I will be taking mine off at the weekend and praying for just a bit of surface rust.

The road salt ruins cars these days! Especially where its trapped with wet mud as well...rear arches, sills, springs etc.

Must say I've always been impressed with the lack of structural rott on 306's. But then saying that I've only ever had experience on 3 of them. Mines just on the boot lid...typical! Good luck pal

If you've got an estate or ph1/2 you might wanna check the arch where the seatbelt point is lol...

Im fairness they are significantly better than most counterparts, no car is invincible to rust though unfortunately.
Must check my ones out when i get a chance.
Had an 2000 xsara a couple of years ago and the rust had come through the sill completely on both sides!!!

Mine's a '93 1.4, it doesn't have covers, just bare sills.
And yes, welded a couple of big holes in the rear arches up, although thankfully mine is sound, this was Jenks old one:

Luckily mines a ph3 so hopefully wont rot as badly but ive still seen a few with rot starting under the sill covers

I must admit I've never touched an estate. Just stripped my phase 2 and can safely say that's all rust free though.

that had no arch liner either...does on drivers side though and surprise surprise no rust at all
although on the green mean beige machine, there isnt a spot of rust anywhere. and it has arch liners all round. thats a 1996
the coassack grey is suffering a bit at the front chassis legs but boths sills are great...thats a 1995
fyi...this is weight saving...

All phase 3 hatchs have a full arch on that side.

Sorted, bar the dent on the end of the weld where I knocked it whilst packing the welder away :doh

Bit of grinding to flat the last couple of welds and straighten up a few hammer marks from making the panel, and she's back in business.
