Decat clearance issues - vlj - 05-04-2013 This is the second style of decat I've had now, and both are causing the same issue, barely clearing the subframe and on idle smashing against it. It is fitted properly, all the way up flat against the downpipe and tightened correctly etc. You can see the lack of clearance here.. Normal driving and it is fine though! ![]() Untitled by 306ep, on Flickr Has anyone else had any issues with these? The only thing I can think of to help is to lift the whole system up closer to the car to try and pull it up a bit RE: Decat clearance issues - Matt - 05-04-2013 Angle grinder to the subframe ![]() RE: Decat clearance issues - declantg - 05-04-2013 Wedge a heat proof mat in there? Might be only option x RE: Decat clearance issues - HDIkyle - 05-04-2013 Not had a problem on my hdi but ye grinder + subframe RE: Decat clearance issues - declantg - 05-04-2013 Also did it all arrive okay? I taped the shit out of it RE: Decat clearance issues - vlj - 05-04-2013 (05-04-2013, 04:23 PM)Matt Wrote: Angle grinder to the subframe I'm not a pikey! Just didn't want it to all unravel RE: Decat clearance issues - DeeTurbo - 05-04-2013 Could there be two gause gasket rings on the bit between the turbo and decat causing the decat to be lower? Are the engine mounts ok and not letting the engine drop? RE: Decat clearance issues - Poodle - 05-04-2013 As above. Only other option is the rest of the exhaust isn't properly secured. Got miles of clearance on the decat i've got, last one was the same and that was bodged to fook - completely the wrong shape/angle. RE: Decat clearance issues - cwspellowe - 05-04-2013 Looks to me like the rest of the exhaust is the problem. Do you still have your midbox, and is the mount attached? If not i guarantee your problem is exhaust alignment RE: Decat clearance issues - vlj - 05-04-2013 (05-04-2013, 06:10 PM)cwspellowe Wrote: Looks to me like the rest of the exhaust is the problem. RE: Decat clearance issues - Just Sean - 05-04-2013 I moved the middle hanger up a notch and that helped... I also took a grinder to the sub frame RE: Decat clearance issues - cwspellowe - 05-04-2013 As said, shorter rubber mount, bend the hanger, anything to lift the exhaust up. Shouldnt have to grind the subframe. Even my bodged scaffolding tube exhaust fits nicely RE: Decat clearance issues - vlj - 05-04-2013 (05-04-2013, 06:50 PM)cwspellowe Wrote: As said, shorter rubber mount, bend the hanger, anything to lift the exhaust up. Ta very much will give it a go tomorrow x RE: Decat clearance issues - Poodle - 06-04-2013 What he said. Bigger hammer + exhaust mounts = problem solved. ![]() |
