1:10 RC Porsche 911 GT2 - C.A.R. - 28-03-2013 Right, I know this isn't strictly a car but it's still an expensive toy! When I turned 16 my mum and dad got me this kit, it's a Tamiya PIAA Porsche 911 GT2. The 993 variant of the GT2 is my favourite Porsche ever and this kit was rare back then, even rarer now! ![]() I never intended to paint it up in box colours with the logos, I always wanted to create a custom road car. I built the chassis, then upgraded it, cut the bodyshell out and masked it up...then I got interested in real cars. ![]() As such this has been boxed-up for the last 7 years! I finally dug it all out at the weekend to have a look at what was needed. ![]() There are a load of alloy upgrades there, but I might not bother installing them. The Porsche is never going to be used in anger, so there seems little point in putting shinys on it! You can see the other chassis to the left, where the upgrades might end up. The Porsche sits on a TA03R-S chassis, a belt-driven 4wd car with the engine at a rear-bias (that's where the "R" comes in) and a short-wheelbase version (the "S" bit if you're still wondering). This makes some parts a real bitch to get hold of, another reason why I don't want to run it! The other chassis is a TA03F. This is standard-length but with the engine at the front of the chassis, this one will actually get used. Back to the Porsche. I'm torn on colours, I need to spray it up when the weather improves (sprays work better when it warms up) but for a road car it needs to look smart. Here are some I found on the web- ![]() I'm leaning towards silver...What do you reckon? I test-fitted the wheels, we have a LOT of dish on the back ![]() ![]() But they need spacing out even more- ![]() And I also have two different wing packages, one with an extra-high rear spoiler support, I don't know which one to fit? ![]() -------- I'll keep this updated with my other projects as well. I had to sell a lot of my cars when I moved out, but here are some of my previous efforts - Mini-Me- ![]() ![]() ![]() The SuBUGru - ![]() ![]() This thing was actually epic, strong 4wd chassis and a huge rear wing built for the Pikes Peak :p With the help of some Meccano! Drift Skyline - ![]() Lancer Evo VI (Now Sold ![]() ![]() ![]() Drifting Scoob- ![]() Drift Corolla - ![]() ![]() This was actually used in a round of competition, came 3rd ![]() Civic Type R- (on a Mini Cooper Chassis) ![]() M-Chassis MX5 (Now Sold ![]() ![]() ![]() M-Chassis Classic Beetle (Now Sold ![]() ![]() ![]() Gran Turismo Pace Car R34 GTR- ![]() ![]() Yes, the sirens all worked and it had the appropriate flashing hazard lights. I still have this, but it's looking a bit sorry for itself ![]() Old Truck thing (really wish I never sold this ![]() ![]() There are many others, but that's enough bandwidth for today ![]() The final plan is to have a selection of nice cars and a couple that I can take out and give a good thrashing - TA03R-S / Carbon - Porsche 911 GT2 Road Car TA03F Nismo Skyline Z-Tune Bayside Blue TA05R Mazda RX-7 Road Car TT01 Gran Turismo Pace Car GTR F103GT Honda NSX Type R Widebody (road car) M-03R Mini Cooper (classic) TA03R Porsche 911 GT3 RS (996) FF02 Peugeot 306 Maxi WRC car DF-03 Off-road buggy and of course the SuBUGru ![]() The collection is not supposed to get any bigger than that, but I'm a big fan of Japanese sportscars so there's a possibility of gaining a Toyota Supra and possibly a couple of others, but I'm on a strict budget so I'm working with what I've already got first!! Comments welcome! RE: 1:10 RC Porsche 911 GT2 - declantg - 28-03-2013 Where did you get the 306?? RE: 1:10 RC Porsche 911 GT2 - Just Sean - 28-03-2013 Looks awesome! I love shit like this... i want some model cars to dot around my room! I love the black... Maybe do a new gt3rs colour scheme,. You can buy the shells on egay for about a tenner and they fit most 1/10 cars RE: 1:10 RC Porsche 911 GT2 - C.A.R. - 28-03-2013 (28-03-2013, 11:50 AM)declantg Wrote: Where did you get the 306?? It's a Tamiya one, came with the FF02 chassis (front engine, front-wheel drive) (28-03-2013, 11:56 AM)Just Sean Wrote: Looks awesome! I love shit like this... i want some model cars to dot around my room! Thing is I have a Porsche GT3 RS to paint lol, the 996 variant. I could do that yellow I suppose. RE: 1:10 RC Porsche 911 GT2 - Just Sean - 28-03-2013 what about the old prosche gulf livery? OR have i made that up? RE: 1:10 RC Porsche 911 GT2 - Matt - 28-03-2013 The dimma 306 looks awesome! And I'd go white on the Porsche ![]() It's a crazy collection you have there mate, bet they are worth a fair bit RE: 1:10 RC Porsche 911 GT2 - C.A.R. - 28-03-2013 Gulf Livery would make it less road-car like though? And it would be a bitch to mask up! The Dimma is still with me, has working lights etc, incl. fogs, headlights, tails, brake lights, indicators. It's a bit mad, and the bodyshell is really heavy now with all the lights / wires! I have another which I'm likely to do up like a WRC car 'boxart' style. Trouble with white is that it hides a lot of detail? All the shutlines and stuff tend to disappear, which puts me off a bit  ALL of these look good! ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Might go for the last one, and do my 996 Porsche to match... RE: 1:10 RC Porsche 911 GT2 - Just Sean - 28-03-2013 Deffiantly has to be the big f*ck of spolier!! RE: 1:10 RC Porsche 911 GT2 - Chris_90 - 28-03-2013 Love the rc cars i once bought one but there so fiddly and with my big hands was a right pain so didnt last long lol Love the 306 defo! Carnt wait to see what the Porsche looks like when its done RE: 1:10 RC Porsche 911 GT2 - Slam Wagon - 28-03-2013 Blew my mind how much detail can go into rc cars http://www.speedhunters.com/2013/03/miniature-wonders-at-rc-drift-body-com/ RE: 1:10 RC Porsche 911 GT2 - puglove - 28-03-2013 TT01 IIRC?? iv got the eairlier TL01's will find some pics ![]() RE: 1:10 RC Porsche 911 GT2 - C.A.R. - 28-03-2013 (28-03-2013, 01:37 PM)puglove Wrote: TT01 IIRC?? iv got the eairlier TL01's will find some pics I've got a couple of TT01s, they're good and cheap! The TL01 was what the Lancer VI was sitting on, had every single upgrade including low-friction aluminium shocks (£60!!) I was gutted when it sold ![]() I've just remembered that I have 2 F103GT cars, one is going to be an NSX and the other is a Pagani Zonda ![]() RE: 1:10 RC Porsche 911 GT2 - puglove - 28-03-2013 Heres mine 2 set up for drift (still 4wd) the rest just normal race spec, all have different hop ups RE: 1:10 RC Porsche 911 GT2 - C.A.R. - 28-03-2013 Nice! I really want a Tamiya E30 BMW as the bodyshell is really detailed, but they're sodding expensive now! The more you look, the more you want to spend ![]() What colour should an RX-7 be everybody? I think either yellow, bright red or metallic blue...trouble with that is I already have a blue Skyline R34 to sit next to it ![]() RE: 1:10 RC Porsche 911 GT2 - puglove - 28-03-2013 RX7 needs to be cherry red no question!! loose to much detail in black The E30 body shell isnt actually tamiya its a HPI one, better IMO comes with all the light pods to go inside, I really want a datsun 510 shell but they dont do one for a TL01/TT01 size chassise they are all M03 size'd ![]() But yeah your right you look on ebay and can end up spending £50+ when you only went out in search on a £2 item RE: 1:10 RC Porsche 911 GT2 - Curt - 28-03-2013 I've got a drift R34 brushless TT01 with lights etc... never sees any use but I've spent faaar too much to sell it! Some really nice ones there though Chris ![]() I like the light blue on the Porsche... and I reckon Yellow could look sweet on the RX. Although red could look pretty sweet RE: 1:10 RC Porsche 911 GT2 - 306GT30 - 28-03-2013 nice!!! I had a competition full of carbon and alloy with a tuned Zenoah Porsche GT2 1:5 nice hobby , but insane money went into that... 4 good race tires for a 1:5 gets you almost 4 good tires for your 306 ![]() RE: 1:10 RC Porsche 911 GT2 - Pugmarshall - 29-03-2013 Wow! Shame they're not real! You do know that, don't you? RE: 1:10 RC Porsche 911 GT2 - Rich306 - 29-03-2013 Thats awesome, don't suppose you have a spare Radio Receiver and transmitter around for the 306 Maxi do ya? Oh i also need Battery and charger lol RE: 1:10 RC Porsche 911 GT2 - procta - 30-03-2013 http://i430.photobucket.com/albums/qq25/chris_rx71/F486B328-1E86-41FA-8405-4CC2A900AFC6-5868-000003338899AEC2.jpg needs a good drop ![]() RE: 1:10 RC Porsche 911 GT2 - Danny2009 - 30-03-2013 Nice collection there, I want one to build from a kit but wouldn't know what to buy or where to buy from! RE: 1:10 RC Porsche 911 GT2 - C.A.R. - 30-03-2013 These all started life as kits buddy, they're a lot simpler to put together than they look! Bit of an update; the chassis is more-or-less complete now, ![]() Testing heights (had to adjust the shock body lengths to bring the ride height down, the driveshafts are now horizontal) ![]() ![]() Also fitted a set of longer rear axles to space the rear wheels out more, now they sit really flush but I could do with some more toe-in at the rear! ![]() She's a fat girl ![]() ![]() Belt, servo and battery support fitted- ![]() That will do for today! RE: 1:10 RC Porsche 911 GT2 - Danny2009 - 31-03-2013 Is there a website where you buy these from? Look like epic fun RE: 1:10 RC Porsche 911 GT2 - Rich306 - 31-03-2013 I'll repeat my post: Thats awesome, don't suppose you have a spare Radio Receiver and transmitter around for the 306 Maxi do ya? Oh i also need Battery and charger lol RE: 1:10 RC Porsche 911 GT2 - C.A.R. - 31-03-2013 I thinned my collection right out mate, so I don't have much left in that respect. I might have the receiver though, if you're on 27Hz? Batteries might all be knackered, I did charge them before putting them into storage though. Just collected my Porsche 996 from the parents, together with a load of paint. Still torn on some colours though! Porsche GT2 - that pale blue colour above? Skyline R34 - gotta be Bayside blue! FD3S RX7 - Yellow? Porsche 996- silver? It has proper 911 Twist alloys ![]() Honda NSX - pearl white? Mini Cooper - metallic red or green?! These are the colours which I already have, so they represent cheap options lol. I also found the following colours- Anodised Blue Pearlescent purple Lime green Metallic gold I think the buggy might get the lime green treatment... RE: 1:10 RC Porsche 911 GT2 - Eeyore - 31-03-2013 wow the 306 is amazing! Where can you get that shell from? These are mine! Nitro 1:10 ![]() I really liked NFS: Most wanted so I painted the BMW M3 shell to match! ![]() Then I needed a shell to for both cars so got this! ![]() ![]() and this is the second car! ![]() ![]() ![]() Both have sat in a filing cabinet for ages now. Used the small one on campus at uni last year haha RE: 1:10 RC Porsche 911 GT2 - Rich306 - 01-04-2013 (31-03-2013, 06:14 PM)C.A.R. RE: 1:10 RC Porsche 911 GT2 - C.A.R. - 01-04-2013 I have an almost Moonstone Blue tin of paint too, maybe I should do another mini-me ![]() No in all seriousness the next one should be Maxi spec, I just need the 6-spoke white 'compmotive' wheels to complete the look... |
