1.8 xu7jp4 centre pipe diameter? - floz123 - 25-03-2013 Hi guys. Does anyone know what the centre pipe diameter is on the ph2 1.8 jp4? I'm looking at making my own back box as I've already cut the silencer out the centre pipe ![]() Cheers RE: 1.8 xu7jp4 centre pipe diameter? - Midnightclub - 25-03-2013 think pretty much on all engines from cat-back are 2.25" Re: 1.8 xu7jp4 centre pipe diameter? - floz123 - 25-03-2013 Okay cheers. Just wanted to find out before I go ordering pipes and boxes ![]() RE: 1.8 xu7jp4 centre pipe diameter? - miles - 25-03-2013 Tiny from memory, I did a service on a mates 1.8 Ph3 and the exhaust was only around 1 1/2" tops RE: 1.8 xu7jp4 centre pipe diameter? - Niall - 25-03-2013 (25-03-2013, 10:19 PM)miles Wrote: Tiny from memory, I did a service on a mates 1.8 Ph3 and the exhaust was only around 1 1/2" tops It wasnt standard then. Mine had a original exhaust on it and that was 2.25. Maybe 2.5. Was it a 8v 1.8? (if they even did them in ph3!) RE: 1.8 xu7jp4 centre pipe diameter? - Midnightclub - 25-03-2013 I didn't think they did 8v 1.8's in 306's at all? Thought the only 8v petrols were the 2.0 xsi ph1 and the 1.4, 1.6 tu's and the reallllly early 1.1's RE: 1.8 xu7jp4 centre pipe diameter? - Niall - 25-03-2013 (25-03-2013, 10:33 PM)Midnightclub Wrote: I didn't think they did 8v 1.8's in 306's at all? Not only was the 8v model completely gutless, it was also paired with a known shitty auto box lol Re: 1.8 xu7jp4 centre pipe diameter? - floz123 - 25-03-2013 No all the jp4's were 16 weren't they? And I agree...from memory it was 2.25"...definitely not 1.5" etc though. Gonna make my own stainless back box and tip etc RE: 1.8 xu7jp4 centre pipe diameter? - Niall - 25-03-2013 (25-03-2013, 10:46 PM)floz123 Wrote: No all the jp4's were 16 weren't they? JP4 was the 16v yes. Cant remember the code for the 8V but they did do them in a small quantity. shit engine apparently! Re: 1.8 xu7jp4 centre pipe diameter? - floz123 - 25-03-2013 Yeah I've heard they aren't all that. The 16v jp4 is a good solid engine from experience and also so I'm lead to believe. RE: 1.8 xu7jp4 centre pipe diameter? - Niall - 25-03-2013 They aren't the most solid engine in the range. They suffer from ruined piston rings and valve guide seals and the management is utter shite but personally i think its the best engine in the range. They are very lively and the lighter engine makes a big difference to handling. Re: 1.8 xu7jp4 centre pipe diameter? - floz123 - 25-03-2013 Yeah I've researched the management and it seems to be total crap! Siemens isn't it? Never heard of the pistons or valves though which is interesting. As for the engine itself...it is the one used in rally cars is it not? Due to its lightness and greater potential? RE: 1.8 xu7jp4 centre pipe diameter? - Niall - 25-03-2013 Sagem management. Not brilliant. The coil pack has a habbit of spiking it. The block was used in some rally cars but not sure exactly when. Sure Ruan will be along soon to tell. In all fairness, only a few of us had issues with rings and seals which could of been due to fitting the gti inlet manifold and it running ever so slightly rich. Once i rebuilt mine, it ran like a dream but had to scrap it due to major rot and a buggered ECU! Re: 1.8 xu7jp4 centre pipe diameter? - floz123 - 25-03-2013 Oh okay...this is useful to know!! I read somewhere that you can put a 2l head...cams and manis on the 1.8? Do you know if this is true? RE: 1.8 xu7jp4 centre pipe diameter? - Niall - 26-03-2013 You can and this is what my new engine will be eventually but the problem again is the management. It doesn't like it really! If you were to do that, ideally you would need to go aftermarket management to see the proper gains and have reliability. Re: 1.8 xu7jp4 centre pipe diameter? - floz123 - 26-03-2013 I'm probably gonna end up doing the head etc and go standalone....omex or something. Any idea on what system your gonna run? RE: 1.8 xu7jp4 centre pipe diameter? - Niall - 26-03-2013 probably be a omex. Want something reliable. Megasquirt is cheap but the DIY kits can be quite unreliable so ive heard. Re: 1.8 xu7jp4 centre pipe diameter? - floz123 - 26-03-2013 Both are suppose to be easily mappable yourself so I believe? Providing you know what your doing? RE: 1.8 xu7jp4 centre pipe diameter? - Niall - 26-03-2013 Think your thinking of uploading a pre written map. To get the best from it and make sure you dont destroy it, it really needs to be live mapped by someone who knows what they are doing. Thats the most expensive part. Can cost upwards of £500 Re: 1.8 xu7jp4 centre pipe diameter? - floz123 - 26-03-2013 Yeah I've looked into mapping and have know someone personally who is a very experienced mapper. Had my other car mapped which cost me a few hundred squid too... RE: 1.8 xu7jp4 centre pipe diameter? - miles - 26-03-2013 yes it was smaller as I ordered in a new pipe which was the same bore as I was thinking of using a 6 one as I have loads of those kicking around. |
