Advice and Input Needed :) - JamesG - 20-03-2013

As some of you may have read in my other thread

http://306oc.co.uk/forum/thread-9215.html

I have decided to take the engine out and replace the engine loom and tidy up the engine aswell as sort out the oil leak i have at the back of the engine which i suspect to be turbo related so my question is

What would you recommend to do while the engine is out

I'm thinking so far a good clean so its spotless!
Replace the gaskets possibly including head gasket.
Make sure my timing is correct.

Also what other bits and pieces do you reckon i'll need.
I'm sorted parts wise as working for ECP has its benefits Wink

Any advice will be good

James

lap in the valves and replace valve stem seals

cambelt, waterpump, tensioners

check all your rack boots and ARB bushes...soooo much easier when no engine!

Remove the EGR system. It's a lot easier to do with the engine out.

Total overhaul of all serviceables - belts, fluids, filters, glowies (don't forget the ones in the pre-heating circuit), etc - unless your cambelt was done 10k ago or something. Doing the egr is a good shout too. Check your rubber piping for signs of deterioration.

Also clean up your engine bay, particularly any earth points. These cars are getting to the age now where corrosion is starting to make an appearance, best to nip it in the bud with a clean up and a fresh coat of paint. Got broken aircon? If so sack that off too.
