2.75" Stainless steel group buy... - Just Sean - 20-03-2013

Bit of a strange one, but i know a couple of us diesel boys are after exhaust systems... I was thinking if we did a group buy on some 3" stainless steel it would work out a lot cheaper for us..

I havnt spoken to any dealers about it yet, im just throwing a rock in the sea atm to gauge intrest... I have looked on ebay and i think its about 60-100quid for enough for one car. (3x1meter straights and 3X 35* bends)

Ill start the list

1. Sean
2. Vlj

RE: 3" Stainless steel group buy... - sam - 20-03-2013

Wouldnt 2.5 be better?

RE: 3" Stainless steel group buy... - Piggy - 20-03-2013

2.5 is a bit of a pointless upgrade if you going all out

RE: 3" Stainless steel group buy... - Just Sean - 20-03-2013

^This. Plus i want big as i want some noise lol!

Ill also be chasing 200bhp... If im gonna do it im gonna do it properly

RE: 3" Stainless steel group buy... - Piggy - 20-03-2013

a .25inch increase for the cost and effort is a bit pointless

RE: 3" Stainless steel group buy... - DazzaHDI - 20-03-2013

Is it a hdi you drive? If so I would defo be interested!!

RE: 3" Stainless steel group buy... - Just Sean - 20-03-2013

Yeah it is dazza. This is really aimed at hdi and xud's

RE: 3" Stainless steel group buy... - Piggy - 20-03-2013

IIRC the exhaust would be the same for xud/hdi!?

RE: 3" Stainless steel group buy... - Just Sean - 20-03-2013

Well.. the amount of pipe needed is. But standard they are different.

RE: 3" Stainless steel group buy... - Piggy - 20-03-2013

only diff must be the downpipe?!

RE: 3" Stainless steel group buy... - Just Sean - 20-03-2013

yarp... i think

RE: 3" Stainless steel group buy... - Piggy - 20-03-2013

so if you make these same all way to downpipe...then a alternate downpipe choice?

RE: 3" Stainless steel group buy... - Just Sean - 20-03-2013

I sharnt be making them... this is just to order the pipe... its up to thebuyer to organise it being made... will just need to be chopped to size and welded... should only cost a pack of biscuits or a crate of lager at most welders

RE: 3" Stainless steel group buy... - sam - 20-03-2013

Just have the exhaust come out the wing Smile thats what I wanted todo coal loads of little chavies just because you can lmao

RE: 3" Stainless steel group buy... - Pugmarshall - 20-03-2013

I think 3" is a bit overkill for anything running less than 180bhp/a TD04?

BTW, HDi's have shorter downpipes IIRC, so they'd have to be different systems...

RE: 3" Stainless steel group buy... - Piggy - 20-03-2013

or just a different downpipe part...as I previously said

RE: 3" Stainless steel group buy... - Just Sean - 20-03-2013

and as i previously said.. im just ordering lenght of pipe... upto the buyer to get it made to their requirements...

RE: 3" Stainless steel group buy... - londondan86 - 20-03-2013

Good idea, could well be interested once you get some prices

1. Sean
2. Vlj
3. Londondan86

And 3" FTW

RE: 3" Stainless steel group buy... - darrenjlobb - 20-03-2013

3" is overkill for anything running anything less than 220hp IDI / 250hp DI imo, Not saying I wouldnt, but for the extra cost weight , MOST people wouldnt have any need for it...a 2.5 system is alot bigger than you imagine it in your head!

As long as it wont have any adverse affects! It should make it sound bloody epic if nothing else!

RE: 3" Stainless steel group buy... - darrenjlobb - 21-03-2013

Big pipes acaully tend to make it sound very boomy / shit imo, I prefer a good rasp from fast moving exhaust gas,

RE: 3" Stainless steel group buy... - swampy - 21-03-2013

If check out the Cost of welding aswell

Stainless isn't cheap to weld and cheap weld isn't always good weld

Re: 3" Stainless steel group buy... - floz123 - 21-03-2013

3" does seem large...2.5 or 2.75 perhaps. I know there's only .25 difference...but it all makes a difference. Plus there is a price difference

RE: 3" Stainless steel group buy... - Willo - 21-03-2013

What would be needed to do one on an estate

RE: 3" Stainless steel group buy... - Birk - 21-03-2013

More pipe lol

RE: 3" Stainless steel group buy... - Just Sean - 21-03-2013

Id be happy to set up a group buy for 2.75... i dont see the point in 2.5"

Lol what bends etc and what lengths of pipe

RE: 2.75" Stainless steel group buy... - Just Sean - 22-03-2013

just an extra meter id of thought

RE: 2.75" Stainless steel group buy... - Willo - 22-03-2013

Ill have to get underneath when I can and have a look

RE: 2.75" Stainless steel group buy... - Ruan - 23-03-2013

Yeah, bigger the pipe, the boomier it is...

You'd be surprised how big 2.5 or 2.75" actually is... The main point isn't so much exhaust size, it's all to do with the silencing in it and making it unrestrictive.

And to be perfectly honest, there's MUCH bigger problems than the exhaust pipe that I'd be sorting long before going for a 3" system, for example the stock exhauts elbow may as well be thrown in the bin, it has NO place on an engine running double the power and in my honest opinion, the stock HDi exhaust manifold is a bag of wank also, just improving it slightly would help things massively.

Especially when bigger turbos are on the cards, keeping everything small at 90hp to keep gas velocity up and make sure the turbo spools early, but having that same item at 200hp isa recipe for massive restriction, high exhaust manifold pressures, lots of heat in the head and not liking anything above 2800rpm!

I mean... Can you see that moving anything like 200hps worth of air...
