Some experimentation with light painting.................. - mark_airey - 06-12-2011 OK so I feel I need to make a post, I have been experimenting with light painting for anyone who doesn't know what this is its basically lighting an image with a torch whilst taking a long exposure photo using a tripod, Anyway, enough crap........Ignore the bumper damage, an animal tried to destroy my car and was somewhat successful All photo's are taken as 1 x 15second exposure at ISO 400 (stupid compact camera and short time limit ) This is how much light there was:- And then in no particular order:- More here http://www.flickr.com/photos/markairey/sets/72157628210151125/ Re: Some experimentation with light painting................ - Matt - 06-12-2011 some pretty cool pictures there mark loving the lows, fow much is the front down by? Re: Some experimentation with light painting................ - declantg - 06-12-2011 i like this alot, have seen a similar thing done with a skyline, but they slowed the shutted speed to ultra slow, parked on a cliff above a city at night and let the stars roll over it, was beautiful! Re: Some experimentation with light painting................ - mark_airey - 06-12-2011 Coilovers as low as they go, could get it lower but i would ruin it, i'm happy with it! I'm limited by the short exposure because I only have a compact ATM, DSLR after crimbo some of the other pics on my flickr are pretty cool too, there are some pre-damage pics too Re: Some experimentation with light painting................ - Matt - 06-12-2011 racelands? i have them, plan totake the helper springs out soon and see how low i can go Re: Some experimentation with light painting................ - Poodle - 06-12-2011 Lairy fairy is here!! Missed you dude. That third/fourth picture looks rad Re: Some experimentation with light painting................ - Dan! - 06-12-2011 Photo 3 and 4 are the same arent they? :/ They both look great though, deffinately the best of the selection. My biggest problem iv found with light painting is accidentally pointing the light right into the camera lense which makes it glare, or pointing the light at the car and it reflects off directly at the camera which also makes it glare. Once you can get the hang of where to point the light though you can get some awesome photos. Il stick a few of mine up later Re: Some experimentation with light painting................ - mark_airey - 06-12-2011 Well spotted Mr Dan, I was smoothing a bumper at same time as posting on here, will fix it later *facepalm* Re: Some experimentation with light painting................ - Dum-Dum - 06-12-2011 Looks really smart mate. Re: Some experimentation with light painting................ - mark_airey - 06-12-2011 fixed the last image, since i am feeling more awake now, here are some more and a random one of a tree........... Re: Some experimentation with light painting................ - Matt - 06-12-2011 The first picture of ^^ that set actually looks like a bolt of lightning Re: Some experimentation with light painting................ - Carlos182 - 08-12-2011 mark_airey Wrote:and a random one of a tree........... This made me laugh more than it probably should.... :p Re: Some experimentation with light painting................ - Strikeforce - 09-12-2011 Ive been seeing quite a few of these photos recently and wondered what all these bright squiggles were now i understand lol although i havent a clue how to do them but that will probably because the only photo experience i have is i point my mobile and click lol Re: Some experimentation with light painting................ - Dum-Dum - 10-12-2011 Strikeforce Wrote:Ive been seeing quite a few of these photos recently and wondered what all these bright squiggles were now i understand lol although i havent a clue how to do them but that will probably because the only photo experience i have is i point my mobile and click lol You can do it on some phones mate. Some sony ericssons are very good for it like my satio. You need a phone thatll screw into a tripod or sit on its side on a wall or box. Also one thatll let you adjust the exposure or at least has a night mode, a timer helps too. Park car at night. Set up phone facing car in night mode with longest exposure and a short timer. Hit the button, run to car with torch and get painting. A hand held workshop light works very well for this. Dont point it at the camera and make sure you keep moving.
