Winter tyres wear - Piggy - 04-03-2013 Just thought I would give info on wear of winter tyres... I have just swapped the winter tyres/wheels on me wifes 106nad and my 306td for the standard wheels/tyres. Here are the results: 106nad, these tyres were bought with 4.5mm tread on them... they have done 3 winters (4month average) heres how they look today: they are around the 3-3.5mm mark...not bad, not bad And the 306 wheels/tyres: bought with 7.5mm tread...3 winters use (4month average, abused!) now they look like this: about 6mm tread left So for approx 12000miles of use for each set....not bad value for money. Cost: the 106 wheels, old 306 steels (free) plus 4 Michelin 165/60/14 £75 the 306 wheels, picasso alloys and almost new Verd's 185/65/15 £150 cheap and safe winter motoring. Plus my standard tyres/wheels have been snug away for the better months! RE: Winter tyres wear - Piggy - 22-03-2013 just to add an update... I have refitted my winter wheels this week....has been pointless running the normal tyres due to constant sub 7/8degree temps and regular flurries of snow and frosts and rain and hail etc RE: Winter tyres wear - silestanix - 23-03-2013 Big fan of winter tyres, have saved my arse many times this winter...never gonna do again without them... RE: Winter tyres wear - Chris_90 - 24-03-2013 Think im defo gona look for some over this year ready for next winter (or knowing uk in a few weeks when we get another few feet) What are they actually like in snow? i mean they pull you up hills fine etc? Will 65 profile fit under the arch of a 306? do you really need 4? or can you get away with 2 for the fronts? RE: Winter tyres wear - Piggy - 24-03-2013 I am on 185/65/15s. they are fine....nice thick profile so you can play with the pressures to suit your style. they improve grip and response, clear snow and ice from the tread due to the sipes and the compound is much softer...but you need to drive accordingly....practice makes perfect. 4 would be better....obviously. 2 on the front is better than none at all but will make the back quite twitchy
