Rear suspension knocking - RJDubya - 24-02-2013
As the title suggests my suspension has developed a slight knock when going over bumps, i think this may be down to the beam mounts but would appreciate some suggestions as to what else it could be?

Will be one of the four mounts or check the damper bolts I had one fall out on me on the m25 once

Common problem. It's the bushes in the torsion bars which only a Pug dealer can replace because it needs fancy kit to set up the torsion bars. Whilst an irritant, it doesn't seem to matter much but eventually the tops of your road wheels will tip inwards and start scuffing the wheel arch linings.

Torsion bar bushes? I think you mean the needle bearings and changing them can be a PITA but it certainly doesn't need a Pug dealer to do this.
My money's on your beam mounts, front ones being the likely culprit.

yeah check your beam mounts first before worrying about a fancy pug tool that you wont need anyway

Well there's no camber that I can see, just sounds like something clattering around the boot... Will check the mounts, if it turns out to be the bearings on the way out I'll get a hdi or '6 beam and upgrade to rear discs :-)
Should probably add to that, there's nothing in the boot apart from a jacket and that won't make the noise this is...

Right, slight update to this and im asking for advice again. Ive had a look at the mounts, they all seem ok (not ruling these out though), cant see any camber on the beam but i think im going to change it for a later beam with disks. Is there anything i can look for on beams in the scrappy to see whether it will be completely f*cked?
Also what should i change on the beam to recondition it? Obviously the mounts and bearings, would it be worth changing the full trailing arm set up or would this be expense for little gain?

You cannot see the front mounts being worn, change them first and go from there

Ah ok, I'll get some new 1s on at the weekend, is it worth changing all 4 mounts if I'm doing the fronts anyway? Any tips for changing them?
