MOT Fail: Rear brake load compensator/compensating valve - ginge191 - 22-02-2013

Simple - how can this be fixed?

I know only the odd few 306's were fitted with these - are they easily replaceable? It's for a phase 2 DT if it makes any difference?

Cheapest place to get hold of one.

Any extra information on these would be grand!

did it fail because it is siezed?? i just sprayed mine with aload of wd40 and worked it in and has been fine since.

RE: MOT Fail: Rear brake load compensator/compensating valve - ginge191 - 22-02-2013

yeh - linkage seized - how do i go about loosening it up??

Sorry, never come across this - all the frenchies i've worked on (giggedy)

RE: MOT Fail: Rear brake load compensator/compensating valve - karl1989 - 22-02-2013

spray it with WD40 and work it then more WD should be fine then

Work it? Manually move it around? or does it move under brake load?

RE: MOT Fail: Rear brake load compensator/compensating valve - Niall - 22-02-2013

Yeah ph2s have them.
Simples. Unbolt the arm end from the beam and cover it in some WD40 and work it free and refit. simples. Ive never seen one yet that has been too buggered to not be repairable.

As said spray it with WD and work it up and down with grips

Ok i read this and think you're talking about taking beam apart /facepalm

Is it fairly straight forward when looking at it??

RE: MOT Fail: Rear brake load compensator/compensating valve - Niall - 22-02-2013

yep. just unbolt one end of it and work it free. Could try a bit of heat on it as well if really needed (although i doubt it) but be careful.
Personally, id just cover it in WD and work it free.

RE: MOT Fail: Rear brake load compensator/compensating valve - ginge191 - 22-02-2013

what exactly moves? i've only seen pictures of it - the spring??

MOT Fail: Rear brake load compensator/compensating valve - Frosty - 22-02-2013

There's a shaft that goes through the spring and then goes through the bit that should move. It's had to explain but you should see the bit that it pivots on and that's the bit to spray with WD

That's the bit you need to free off

RE: MOT Fail: Rear brake load compensator/compensating valve - Piggy - 23-02-2013

yup...happens all the time.

thats one lazy ass MOT tester though...at the pug specialist I used to work for, the MOT tester would just spray it on the ramps and work it free there and then. If no one has weight in the back often then they just seize!

FYI...my ph1 has brake a rear brake compensator

MOT Fail: Rear brake load compensator/compensating valve - Frosty - 23-02-2013

I free them off as long as that's like the only thing it fails on

MOT Fail: Rear brake load compensator/compensating valve - Jonny b - 23-02-2013

I just spray with plusgas and hit it with a hammer lol

RE: MOT Fail: Rear brake load compensator/compensating valve - Slam Wagon - 23-02-2013

Can you remove these? Being lowered i dont see the point in it as it will always think i have masses of weight in the back.

MOT Fail: Rear brake load compensator/compensating valve - Jonny b - 23-02-2013

Yeh but it compensates for that! It's what it's there for

Great picture! what way exactly is this moving - stretching or compressing that small spring? soaked it up today and no movement at all Sad

RE: MOT Fail: Rear brake load compensator/compensating valve - Frosty - 23-02-2013

the bit that my finger is pointing at should move towards the spring. i find the best way to move it is mole grips or pry it with a big screw driver

RE: MOT Fail: Rear brake load compensator/compensating valve - Piggy - 23-02-2013

set of grips on it and move it too and fro until free...

altho now probably not main priority!

Doh

yep, the Dturbo still needs sorting as it's for the MOT - only got 2 weeks to correct it for a free re-test.

I'll have another crack today.
