Advice on condition of clutch & fly XUD - silverzx - 20-02-2013

Finally got the 1.9 gearbox and clutch setup off last week ready to go in the 205.

Can someone confirm that the clutch isn't too far gone? It shows signs of wear but looks ok to me. I'm not really sure though so if someone could confirm for me.

Many thanks!

Ideally put a new clutch in! As you've got it all apart.
If needs must my mates got a brand new friction plate that he doesn't need as he put a paddle plate in.
Sure hell only want 20 plus post for it.

RE: Advice on condition of clutch & fly XUD - silverzx - 20-02-2013

Is it a valeo Chris?

RE: Advice on condition of clutch & fly XUD - Chris - 20-02-2013

Yes it is.

The friction plate is only half the battle though, clamping force plays a massive part and sadly you cant see that :/ Make sure you give that flywheel a good clean with some emery cloth aswell. Need a side on of that friction disc tbh to see how much meat is left on it.

Look at the rivet holes for a rough guess on how much meat is left on it. Personally Id fit a new one and probably never worry about it for the rest of the life of the car

There appears to be loads of chunk on that clutch, assuming that the pressure plate was new at the same time I bet you could easily get another 50k+ if you were on a stock tune.... I've pulled much worse than that from my xud when it was pulling some hellish torque.

bit of meat but the clutch bearing dont look clever...

lot of effort for it to go in few months...new one for peace of mind!

What you reackon then, completely new clutch kit all together? If so wheres the place to get them?

Will a valeo be ok for 150~170 bhp in the long run?

Or I could have the friction plate off you Chris and try get the other bits here and there..

if you look at the clutch cover you can see loads of burnt patches....prob had an oil leak in there and its left its mark.

look at flywheel ---also has same marks.

fit a new clutchkit, clean flywheel with emery & brake cleaner

make sure theres no oil leak from input shaft housing

make sure no engine oil leaks have made their way into bellhousing

better spending out now than taking it all to bits again when it slips/fails ???????????????

RE: Advice on condition of clutch & fly XUD - Ruan - 22-02-2013

Meh personally I'd shove that back together as long as you brake cleaner the shit out of it... End of the day it's only a gearbox change, it'll take you a day or so if that to do?

I've put together worse than that... Long as you're not going for chronic low down torque, like 300lb.ft+ I wouldn't worry tbh! And a 205 you'll probably find it's so light it'd rather destroy the tyres than the clutch!
