anyone know what the hell this does, is it a safety feature for starting the car, or is there a engine managment side of it as well?, the thread is shagged on mine so it always thinks the pedal down, i cant find anything wrong with car.......just curious

I wondered this when I replaced the brake pedal switch, be interesting to know what it's for...

Mine threw up a code when the clutch was changed on mine. Its really strange switch as they're all cable operated!

On HDi's it's only for the ECU afaik. When you press the clutch in, the ECU tries to match the revs to the road speed for a smoother gearchange.

On cars with cruise control, its also used as a safety cut-off switch for the cruise. On certain cars (such as Dodge's) it's also used to stop the engine being started unless the clutch is pressed. Made me look like a right dick not being able to start a dodge after servicing it lol.
