Few Issues with the d-turbo.. - Bananalad - 21-01-2012

Just got a phase 2 with a few small problems..

The speedo clock doesnt work but the rev counter does.. Sender on top of the gear box?

Heater only works on 4.. Read something about this before its a rheostat?

It grinds a little going into 4th gear only. Anyone any ideas?

Ill update later when i get the car thanks for any help lol

Sounds about right on the first two
As for the slight grind. New gearbox oil works wonders for the feel of it and noises

Really does make a change to the feel of it if it hasn,t been changed for a while, if it still crunches afterwards it will be either gear box or clutch, and if its hard to get into gear then will probably be the gear linkages. Smile

the hearers will be the resistor pack, its in the intake above the motor

Thanks for the help! Its a gentle grind/crunch into 4th gear so shouldn't be too bad

Going to pick this car up later, want to get the speedo sorted asap. Anyone link me to the sensor i need to buy? Its a 98 phase 2, or is there a chance i wont need one just a loose conection? Thanks

Re: Few Issues with the d-turbo.. - Jake - 23-01-2012

Probably best to go straight to a PUG specialist garage to buy a sensor / sender.
IIRC, To get to the sensor / sender you have to take out the driver side driveshaft anyway, I wouldn't go through that just to check it. Id buy one and if you don't need on then send it back.

As for the fourth gear grinding - sounds a syncromesh problem pal.
Syncromesh syncronises gear ratio's when you change gear - id say difficult to repair would reocmmend a new box in time
see here for info http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Manual_tra ... ynchromesh

Well ive had the car a couple of days now, the car grinds into 4th gear when changing gear normally. But when im changing from 3rd to 4th if i hold my foot on the clutch and let the revs drop to 1000 it will go in with no grinding.

Thanks ginge im not too worried if i need a new box ive one here for it Smile

Thats great thanks jake Smile
