possible drive shaft knock ? - brad306 - 28-01-2013

just a quick question, my car has been parked up at college for a few hours, got back in it to go home, and it has developed a knock from the front passenger side, its more of a knock rather than a click, it gets louder and faster as you go along, (obviously), does anyone know if this could just be the cv joint or the actual drive shaft ? or possibly a track rod end ??, thanks

Cable tie around the driveshaft?

What is it like on full lock?

gets louder on full lock, however it does happen while driving in a straight line.

^Agreed, get your head in there and check the condition of the inner and outer cv boots, if they are split then expect the joints to be on their way out, you may get away with packing them with grease and changing the boot but for the hassle you might as well just change the cv as they're only cheap.

If it was a shaft you'd get steering wheel wobble like the wheels are un balanced.

Had this on mine it started quiet and got louder over the weekend. Got a new shaft was only when I was removing the hubnut the middle fell out and the ball made a runner down the drive.
