IMO the more metal you can use the better as less chance of leaks with lots of silicone/joins.

One day I'll get mine all made from metal and welded up

Gonna need the 57-63 to go from the 2.5" piping to the 2.25" c5 pipe?

Yeah I ment metal 90° bends, will the 180's go straight around my rad then?

Yeah im very tempted to get mine all made up in stainless, I know a good welder so shouldnt be a massive issue really!

RE: oil-burner's moonstone HDi project - Just Sean - 15-01-2013

Yeah mine did.

If you can I would mate.

And yeah you will need that reducer! Being "thick" again!

Sound!
Hmmm only problem is having to rip the car to bits to measure up where as if I just did it in bits I can just wing it in one day.

Haha no worries, im trying to imagine the route in my head

RE: oil-burner's moonstone HDi project - Just Sean - 15-01-2013

Wing it roughly, then get it welded! The only draw back with not having silicone is u lose the flexibility!

Hmm I guess youd still need a few connectors because it'd be impossible to feed it through everything in one piece. Might get all the bottom pipe welded up tho, saves putting shit loads of joiners around the sump.

RE: oil-burner's moonstone HDi project - Just Sean - 15-01-2013

lol! i'd imagine it would b pretty bitching! you could whack it all together and if youve got any leaks get the problem area(s) welded

I imagine its gonna be areas rather than area mate! Lol
Guaranteed it'll be in the most akward place to get to aswell!

Well ive got a 406 elbow now anyway so thats that sorted, wherr did you get you gasket from?

RE: oil-burner's moonstone HDi project - Just Sean - 15-01-2013

kris already had one in his unit :/

The only really akward place is straight of the turbo, thats where mine is blowing now, but even that isnt too hard to sort out mate. I have got a ramp at work though which helps.

Should be okay, just tighten everything up and dont use jubilee clamps! Thats why mine is blowing

Shite, ill ring pug and ask, got to pick up my parcel shelf plugs anyway.

Yeah I can imagine, it was hard enough putting the downpipe on when I got the stainless.
Did you drop the subframe for better access?

Na mate, ive heard everyone on about these malikar clips but they are pricey for the proper ones!

RE: oil-burner's bitchin HDi project - soon to be stage 2! - Just Sean - 15-01-2013

I got mine from a local hydraulic place. Worth it mate! Mikalor too Wink

No, left everything in! Was a nightmare, specially changing the turbo!

RE: oil-burner's bitchin HDi project - soon to be stage 2! - Oil-burner - 15-01-2013

Cool, how much they set you back?
Yeah im not skimping in them cos I cant be arsed to be back under it every 5 minutes.
How the f*ck did you do the turbo without moving anythin?
The subframes drop out in seconds mate, ive got to do the steering rack while im at it so Ive got to drop it anyway.

RE: oil-burner's bitchin HDi project - soon to be stage 2! - Just Sean - 15-01-2013

Cos Kris is a wizard! Undone the top engine mount and i was pulling it forward while kris pulled evverything out using black magic!!

I paid 3.17 for 2, but they were small ones. 40 - 43mm

Haha when you said you didnt move anything it wasnt exactly true then! Lol
Thats how I got down the back of the, dt!

Thats not bad at all, cheaper than exhaust clamps in halfrauds! Lol

Right bud im off to bed, im up at half 4!!!
Cheers for your help dude.

Think tub will be gone soon. Too many problems with it so I'm gonna scrap it. I have a little 1.4 I'm picking up when snows gone. Will be restoring it and either keeping it or selling it.

I know but me n mrs are planning moving out so makes things much cheaper. But depends how much I can sell it for. Weather it goes. Also depends how good it is. But the dturbo I got at the moment will never be what I want cos it's shit on the outside.

RE: oil-burner's bitchin HDi project - soon to be stage 2! - Oil-burner - 16-01-2013

Dont see how mate, my sister had a 1.4 and it drank fuel because its so under powered plus the insurance difference will be marginal!

On another note I braved the freezing cold to go to the scrap yard to get some boost pipes, picked up a 406 top pipe for £5, no c5's in tho!
Was gonna get the others but I couldnt feel my fingers/toes!

FMIC budget

Cooler £25
406 top pipe £5
C5 bottom pipe £15
406 inlet elbow £10

Total £55
Remaining £45
