Looks like there's an event on that weekend, so that realistically leaves us with the 4th-8th April

Yep, course there is mate. Just send me across the £1500 fee and I'll add you in.....

(just messing Tongue)

I believe we will be, yes. There is a bit variation in prices depending on time, so I'll look into that again and find the cheapest. Do peoples have a preference as to whether we go late at night or dead early?

I've got a good idea of the route we're going to take in mind. I would like to have detours along the way and not it literally be straight to the Nurburgring and back, for instance , Bruges is only 20 mins out the way and I'd love to go there, so just little extras like that. Any major objections, speak up!

RE: April 2013 - Nürburgring? - the milkman - 15-01-2013

Jonny wanna check how much ferry is for me without taking the car of course and I'll jump with you

RE: April 2013 - Nürburgring? - Jonny81191 - 15-01-2013

Sure thing mate, I guess it'll be about 80 or so both ways for both of us. Cheap enough Big Grin

RE: April 2013 - Nürburgring? - the milkman - 15-01-2013

you not gotta pay extra for shipping the car over?

RE: April 2013 - Nürburgring? - Jonny81191 - 15-01-2013

When i went to France last year it was £90 both ways, in the height of the season, 2 up with bikes on the back.

RE: April 2013 - Nürburgring? - the milkman - 15-01-2013

cool just let us know anyway and i'll send you cash lol

RE: April 2013 - Nürburgring? - Jonny81191 - 15-01-2013

okay mate

RE: April 2013 - Nürburgring? - the milkman - 15-01-2013

sweeeet, looks like im going the ring after all then hahaha i'll be your official camera man Big Grin lmao

RE: April 2013 - Nürburgring? - c.gerrard - 17-01-2013

Spent all evening planing this trip and this is where I'm up to.

I propose leaving Friday 5th April. The ferry from Dover to Dunkirk is best (less distance to the ring compared to Calais) and that leaves at 02:00 arriving at 05:00. So if Jonny and I leave Friday, could we crash at someones for the night? I am then thinking coming back Friday 12th April. The ferry seems to be cheapest from what I can find between those two dates. It will cost £90 (http://www.aferry.co.uk/ferrysearch/ResultsNew.aspx)

Then the epic road trip shall begin. Seeming as it will be early, there is not much point in heading straight there, so I think a few check points along the way. First in Bruges and then Brussels, before heading to the Nurburgring. That works out at 285 miles, approx 4 hours 44 minutes.

I have not looked into accommodation yet though, I'll do that tomorrow night.

Now that they have released the opening hours for the track, it all looks fine to me. We will have all of Sunday and a few hours on Monday and Tuesday. Price is 26 Euros a lap, however there are deals if you want to more. Here is a link to the relevant page : http://www.nuerburgring.de/en/angebote/driving-experiences/tourist-rides-nordschleife/opening-times-nordschleife.html

Now for the exciting part. Instead of going for the sole purpose of the Nurburgring, I propose an epic road trip through Europe. I've planned out the route of all routes. Once we have left the Nurburgring, we will go to the Stelvio Pass, the San Bernardino Pass, the Col De La Bonetto and finally Route De La Napoleon. They all look like absolutely cracking roads and are relatively close together. I've put it all on a map here: https://maps.google.co.uk/maps?saddr=Dunkirk,+France&daddr=N%C3%BCrburgring,+N%C3%BCrburg,+Germany+to:Stelvio+Pass,+Santa+Maria+V%E2%80%8Bal+M%C3%BCstair,+Switzerland+to:%E2%80%8BHinterrhein+to:Arbedo-Castione,+Switzerland+to:Jausiers,+France+to:Saint-Etienne-de-Tinee+to:Antibes+to:Castellane,+France+to:Digne+to:Gap,+France+to:Corps,+France+%E2%80%8B%E2%80%8Bto:Laffrey,+France+to:Dunkirk,+France&hl=en&ie=UTF8&sll=47.383474,6.394043&sspn=9.060747,19.753418&geocode=FcC5CgMdIj4kACm5IP_ZbYvcRzGgbWSBPvEKBA%3BFUgGAAMdyPppACGaWMpzG8LbgClZxRCQNq2_RzGaWMpzG8LbgA%3BFdUKxgIdUHSfACkdHBhV5BqDRzFg64MuiAkHHQ%3BFYWvyAId0d-PAClXU6I1z8OERzFiDcGCRsJb7A%3BFdguwQId-AiKACkfXqZZ3kuERzF7cCzuKyAdLg%3BFfjJpQIdEb5mAClPrzVmWZPMEjEuTR4RwHA_Fg%3BFUJJowIdgaxpACnZC9IW_PnMEjFwmJf9pRkIBA%3BFQL8mAIdbrhsACmpkVqeRdXNEjGwn5f9pRkIBA%3BFWIKnQIdJGRjACnnJTsx8QvMEjGQtZf9pRkIBA%3BFSHLoAIdSCdfACkLJb3tR4XLEjEAtJf9pRkIBA%3BFRbtpwIdDsVcACnVE6LYeD_LEjFgp5f9pRkIBA%3BFb7dqwIdO6daACn5btdY4zLLEjFQe77kKqsIBA%3BFcC5CgMdIj4kACm5IP_ZbYvcRzGgbWSBPvEKBA&oq=N%C3%BCrburgring,+Nrburg,+Germany&t=h&doflg=ptm&mra=ls&z=6

Total for the trip 2,007 Miles, 37 hours.

RE: April 2013 - Nürburgring? - Jonny81191 - 17-01-2013

YES!!!!!!!

Can't wait Big Grin

RE: April 2013 - Nürburgring? - martyn92 - 17-01-2013

Im up for this if accommodation costs are low-ish Smile

RE: April 2013 - Nürburgring? - Jonny81191 - 17-01-2013

I dunno about Germany, but 90% of towns and villages in France have a municipal campsite, basically a field with pitches and a loo block. About 3 euros per person per night.

RE: April 2013 - Nürburgring? - martyn92 - 17-01-2013

Hmm think I can push the boat out..

Im in if I can get a passenger

RE: April 2013 - Nürburgring? - Jonny81191 - 17-01-2013

Legendary.

I think it is fair to say at this point, and also to reiterate a point raised before. We will NOT be able to bet breakdown cover abroad on a car over 10 years old. So you need to know you can make the trip, or if not, that you are happy to fix/bodge stuff on the roadside using anything you can lay your hands on.

I'll have a tow rope and a full toolkit, enough to do anything we need, but i'm just making the point Big Grin

(not aimed at you martyn, I don't know you or your car lol it's just a general comment)

Random streetview..

I CAN'T ACTUALLY WAIT!!!

RE: April 2013 - Nürburgring? - c.gerrard - 17-01-2013

lol I can't wait for some of the horrible bodges that are going to take place.

Yep, going to awesome, going to be epic, going to be a once in a life time opportunity!!

RE: April 2013 - Nürburgring? - Jonny81191 - 17-01-2013

until next year when we do it all again!

RE: April 2013 - Nürburgring? - c.gerrard - 17-01-2013

Martyn, what are you actually running mate? I hope it's a DT Big Grin

RE: April 2013 - Nürburgring? - martyn92 - 17-01-2013

Why do you hope its a DT?
But yes it is haha Smile Although its getting a td04 in the next few weeks so, uhm, could be interesting in terms of reliability

Will phone up rac tomorrow about cover abroad and see what they say

RE: April 2013 - Nürburgring? - Jonny81191 - 17-01-2013

You do realise that the 'ring will ra*e you if you break down on track? It's stupid money...

You going for HDi rods?

RE: April 2013 - Nürburgring? - martyn92 - 17-01-2013

Yeahhhhh not sure if to drive on it lol

On the RAC website doing a european quote it came back at £78 and car is 19yr old !
