Mate Ive not really read the whole thread but Im in a similar position to you, my ex split up with me 2 months ago after 3 years together, wed got engaged back in January and I thought we were happy and very much in love (i certainly was) and she decided one day shed had enough and called it off.
Anyway, my advice is this;
Go out with as many girls as possible, youll very quickly work out exactly what your taste in women is and it gets your confidence up/keeps it up. It also lets you realise that 95% of women are a waste of space.
My personal experience is dont meet up with women just for sex cos sods law is that the one bird who dosent want a relationship is the one you have the love at first sight moment with and connect with on a proper level and itll f*ck you up not being able to have it.

See my ex was a lesbian usually wouldn't bother me but when you treat them like a princess for 11 months buy them everything you can afford etc and it turns out that for that 11 months she's been stringing you along so that her parents didn't find out she was a lesbian it's a bit of a kick in the bollocks and did virtually destroy my confidence before her I could talk to any female and flirt etc...now the thought of it scares the crap out of me.
I did start seeing a girl a few months ago who I had my eye on for months she was (bad I know!) my best friend's sister but he was alright with it she had been in a bad relationship and we started seeing each other and just taking things slow was going great for about a month and then I went out with her and a few of our friends and one of em was attacked so she asks me to go to hospital with him I do as she said and made sure he got sorted she said she was going home and that she'd ring me when she got back got a goodnight kiss etc...No phonecall until 5am "I forgot to ring you I'm sorry I got home okay just sat chilling with Sam at the minute" no problems until I heard that "Sam" was in the context of "Samuel" and that he couldn't find his trousers etc...turned out she'd started seeing me to make her ex jealous and when that failed she started shagging his best mate so that's my reason for being shit scared to even go near a relationship now!

I gotta say I aint really got a "Type" as such just that with some birds I find it easier to talk to like if I go to Cadwell etc (couple of the marshals are female and FIT!) and I find it fairly easy to talk to them as we have a common interest...if you catch me in a pub or club I'm usually like "Ohhh so you are you a local?" when the answer comes "No, on holiday" my reaction is usually "Ahhh well erm hello...enjoy your holiday" and f*ck off as I just can't seem to be able to speak to them unless they're doing the same thing as me!

i find it easier to talk to the birds at work as iam used to working with them.
but on a night out, its hard to even get a convo out of bird whos out on a night out. they are normally too pissed,dancing or they have their other half.
been chatted up once, that was when i was out fancy dress. we did a school boy theme. with my height i pulled that off nobother and got some odd looks of people walking passed.
my cousin got a shock once when i was with him, when i walked passed a bird and she took the piss out of me been small. ( happends a few times)

the thing with me is the age thing, iam 26 and some of the lasses that are out on the town are 18 so they see me as old.

Yeh I totally agree with you on that score mate 90% of the birds out in Skeg are either off their faces or with their blokes or he's off mingling somewhere she approaches you and because he sees you talking to her puts 2 and 2 together and makes 53 but most of the birds in Skeg are f*cking jailbait anyway they don't ID any of them going in if they're showing cleavage etc.
The whole female coming up to me thing was the reason I got bottled...silly bitch started talking to me then even though I was with a bird tried to stick her tongue down my throat her bloke saw it and I got the receiving end of a bottle around my head!
And the police did: f*ck all, it was my word against his. Even though there was camera footage of the incident but they never bothered to check it out.
