Its just, well, rubbish! No wonder it didnt make much power! RE: SRowells Diablo 1.8 - Jenvey 45s & OMEX600 - Niall - 22-05-2015 The GTi manifold really is a work of art for what was considered a budget car. If them two studs are one above the other at an end, it will blow. My suggestion would be to have them out asap. You can pick up new stud and nut kits cheap on egay RE: SRowells Diablo 1.8 - Jenvey 45s & OMEX600 - Eeyore - 22-05-2015 (22-05-2015, 09:07 PM)Niall Wrote: The GTi manifold really is a work of art for what was considered a budget car. Problem is getting them out. I reckon I can get one out with molgrips but had had enough for the day. RE: SRowells Diablo 1.8 - Jenvey 45s & OMEX600 - Piggy - 22-05-2015 Get it out if you can pal. Like I said to you, its likely to blow RE: SRowells Diablo 1.8 - Jenvey 45s & OMEX600 - Stef205 - 22-05-2015 no need for a stud kit just use m8 bolts in with washers. RE: SRowells Diablo 1.8 - Jenvey 45s & OMEX600 - bashbarnard - 23-05-2015 What sted said. Suffolk fasteners in Ipswich will have everything you need. You can go in with measurements and you can buy just one bolt or 100. From memory they are 8x1.25 but don't quote me on it. RE: SRowells Diablo 1.8 - Jenvey 45s & OMEX600 - Piggy - 23-05-2015 I assumed you snapped them clean off in the head?? If there is something to get on, get them out! RE: SRowells Diablo 1.8 - Jenvey 45s & OMEX600 - bashbarnard - 28-05-2015 Yahh I got the stud out for sam. Then spent the next hour trying to get a good thread into the hole. Thankfully we got a little done. RE: SRowells Diablo 1.8 - Jenvey 45s & OMEX600 - Eeyore - 28-05-2015 Yep Bash came over and we got the stud out and refitted the manifold. Also got some bits off the estate. Also found that the 1.8 cooling elbow and pipes are in the way of the manifold so need to get some GTI ones. Carl Chambers has some i can go and collect so hopefully that will happen over the weekend unless something else comes up. Subframe to go on. Not going to put the gti6 beam on. Just going to get it together and running. RE: SRowells Diablo 1.8 - Jenvey 45s & OMEX600 - Dum-Dum - 29-05-2015 Sounds like an utter farce mate. keep at it though as we are looking forward to seeing it at FCS. I know people have done it before but nobody has documented it. Ill probably make a guide... everything im doing isnt difficult... its just time consuming and when youre doing it for the first time it takes even longer. Much easier with friends to lend a hand and when you can read up on things before. RE: SRowells Diablo 1.8 - Jenvey 45s & OMEX600 - Poodle - 30-05-2015 I know this isn't helpful now, but for future reference; when you feel a stud or bolt go tight as you're winding it out, give it a spray of breaking fluid, switch the ratchet and wind it back in a few turns and then try again. Should help keep your breakages down to a minimum. ![]() Looks like you're making good progress with this, keep it up! RE: SRowells Diablo 1.8 - Jenvey 45s & OMEX600 - lolsteve - 30-05-2015 Or get an impact wrench ![]() RE: SRowells Diablo 1.8 - Jenvey 45s & OMEX600 - Dum-Dum - 30-05-2015 No steve, impact gun will still snap studs. This.. So whats been happening.... Been polishing some wheels.... and cleaning them before... ![]() after... ![]() getting there but its not a uniform finish... some bits are shiny... other bits are mirror... dont think itll be done in time so will probably just paint the centres and be done with it... ![]() Manifold is on... ![]() cat and fitting kit is on... hopefully correct. 4mm gap and can still see the firering... but its on there tight. ![]() and seam welded subframe, GTI6 ARB and meyle HD wishbones are now on... ![]() All back together now but still need to reattach gear linkages, get one subframe bolt in and tighten everything before im happy.... other essential bits to do are all cooling related. Rear coolant elbow needs to be replaced with a GTI6 one which hopefully ill get tomorrow or monday. And.... Heater matrix pipes need to be cut and attached! FCS doesnt seem too impossible. RE: SRowells Diablo 1.8 - Jenvey 45s & OMEX600 - Dum-Dum - 30-05-2015 I'd want that cat on more mate, the nuts don't even have the stud fully through their thread. RE: SRowells Diablo 1.8 - Jenvey 45s & OMEX600 - Eeyore - 30-05-2015 (30-05-2015, 09:09 PM)Dum-Dum Wrote: I'd want that cat on more mate, the nuts don't even have the stud fully through their thread. was taken before i did them up! RE: SRowells Diablo 1.8 - Jenvey 45s & OMEX600 - Poodle - 31-05-2015 It's normal to have a slight gap, try starting it and sticking your head under, you'll know if it's blowing. Tbf an impact wrench really helps with not shearing stuff, but a degree of caution is definitely required. RE: SRowells Diablo 1.8 - Jenvey 45s & OMEX600 - Eeyore - 01-06-2015 Right so Carl Chambers has got me some gti6 cooling hoses which I am picking up tomorrow night. This evening I hope to get the new brake discs fitted, get the interior together, hang the magnex properly for the first time. Ive run out of time really to polish the fondmetals any more so ill probably end up giving them a quick polish to a low standard before painting the centres. Also need to spray the new 3d printed centre caps ive got and then cut the vinyl logos etc for those. Looks like the first time this is going to be fired up will be only days before FCS so I hope the matrix doesnt leak and everything works! Its a challenge! D: RE: SRowells Diablo 1.8 - Jenvey 45s & OMEX600 - Eeyore - 01-06-2015 Right it has been dark and raining this evening and I wasnt in the mood to go on work on the car. Neighbours have complained that the estate is bringing the neighbourhood down etc. Because raceestate wasnt the correct answer... Anyway I have promised that it will be gone before the end of June so Ill have to properly strip that after FCS. In actual progress related news because i couldnt be arsed to get to the car and do brakes I decided to crack on with the wheels. Polishing them is taking too long... either I could come to FCS with some lovely wheels... or I could come with a 306... so Ive made a start spraying the centres and Ill give the rims a sand and polish using the pikey version of having the wheel on the car. Anyway... primer on... ![]() few coats of paint on... ![]() and between coats I worked on cutting the mirror vinyl and fondmetal text for the set of replacement 3D printed centre caps I designed and made. ![]() Got to wait for the paint to dry on those and then should be able to put them together tomorrow. Ill also be lacquering the wheels. They arent perfect but theyre a damn sight better than they were! RE: SRowells Diablo 1.8 - Jenvey 45s & OMEX600 - Piggy - 02-06-2015 cant wait to see these done... always thought as cool as they are, they let the car down a bit...so I am keen to see them fresh ![]() RE: SRowells Diablo 1.8 - Jenvey 45s & OMEX600 - lolsteve - 02-06-2015 ![]() Still keep up the work man, you may not be faster but you can be shiny-er ![]() RE: SRowells Diablo 1.8 - Jenvey 45s & OMEX600 - Eeyore - 02-06-2015 So working from home today I popped out every few hours to put more coats of lacquer on. Looking good! A few marks and its not perfect but I think it looks great and Im happy with the finish for the small amount of effort Ive put in. The polished rim will be shocking but the centres are presentable. ![]() ![]() ![]() Also put some of the centre caps together. Vinyl doesnt like to stick to them so might have to be something I put on at the show... or maybe ill get some double sided tape for extra stickyness... ![]() And I collected the all important parts from Carl Chambers tonight. For anyone fitting a gti6 manifold to a non-gti6 you need these pieces in order to clear the manifold. The thermostat housing is different too as there is a small connecting piece. ![]() Wednesday and Thursday night should see Toms306 join me to help finish off the car. Friday Lunch time is when we set off for FCS and Sam7057 should be coming over to help with anything I havent been able to do before setting off. Worst case scenario is we spend all of Friday on the car. RE: SRowells Diablo 1.8 - Jenvey 45s & OMEX600 - 7057sam - 03-06-2015 Best of luck with tonight and tomorrow night hopefully just be tidying up jobs on Friday,I should be able to get down first thing so long as we leave by 3 ish we'll be fine. RE: SRowells Diablo 1.8 - Jenvey 45s & OMEX600 - Eeyore - 03-06-2015 (03-06-2015, 07:52 AM)7057sam Wrote: Best of luck with tonight and tomorrow night hopefully just be tidying up jobs on Friday,I should be able to get down first thing so long as we leave by 3 ish we'll be fine. Cheers mate. Yeh should be possible! I imagine worst case we end up bypassing the heater matrix. RE: SRowells Diablo 1.8 - Jenvey 45s & OMEX600 - welshpug - 03-06-2015 does your xu7 have a twin outlet rear water manifold thingy? as the alloy block ones dont interchange to the iron block as the bolts are laid out differently. ![]() |
