Re: BOOST!!!! - mjcook1984 - 06-01-2012

as Ruan mentioned do it as a shed project i recon you could do it for £600 providing you could get away without having to remap the ecu if that even possible on a 1.4 as ive never owned one

chop and weld a flange on the standard manifold
make up a downpipe
t2
oil return
intercooler and pipes
pipes for water feed and return
pipe for water return
run it on low boost say 5 - 7 psi i wouldnt risk going any higher without some research
you main problem would be to get the right fuel to air mix to stop your pistons melting as a lean mixture extends the combustion duration thus higher temperatures if i understand it correctly.

plus if that works ok at a later date you could always swap the parts over to a 1.6 to get that little bit more power.

by all means if im talking complete bollocks say as im speaking in theory and dont want to be responsible for cocking this up for him if he does go ahead

Re: BOOST!!!! - ginge191 - 06-01-2012

OR for £16, get one of these badboys!

Re: BOOST!!!! - Foxy-jim - 06-01-2012

Finally someone on my side haha. It would be quality if done!

I might actually buy one of these one day just for a laugh!

Re: BOOST!!!! - Grant - 06-01-2012

I wouldnt, youd probably end up with bits of exploded plastic in your engine... lol

Yeah be good while it lasted though!

Re: BOOST!!!! - Foxy-jim - 06-01-2012

Dont think it would actually work though would it?

Let's put it this way, if they worked well, more people would use them lol

Re: BOOST!!!! - Foxy-jim - 06-01-2012

Exactly, im happy with my supra induction kit haha.

I dont see why a good motor couldn't be used to turn a supercharger, it would remove any mounting/belt issues.

Re: BOOST!!!! - Foxy-jim - 07-01-2012

Its not a supercharger...

Re: BOOST!!!! - londondan86 - 07-01-2012

Foxy-jim Wrote:Its not a supercharger...

I know that's not but why couldn't you run an Eaton M45 (mini supercharger) using an electric motor, in theory it would spin it up quicker than the car could using the engine, just use some sort of throttle sensor to tell the motor when and how much to spin.

Re: BOOST!!!! - Rippthrough - 07-01-2012

Because of the immense amount of current you would need to draw to power the thing - at 12 volts, you'd have cables as thick as your thumb.

Re: BOOST!!!! - Foxy-jim - 07-01-2012

I think if there was a better way to set it up, it would have been done by now!

Re: BOOST!!!! - Dave - 11-01-2012

Im loving this project, its almost XUD spec, bolt on turbo and see what she does! Big Grin

Get a regulator and wind the fuel pressure up rather than getting ECU management, My friend did that with his saxo vtr, I thought he would melt a piston or something, he was running 10lb from a T25 that was literally just bolted onto the front but he ended up shitting a rod, so if you did something similar but ran less boost. This is the first thing I would do if I had a petrol.... get a turbo on it...

Re: BOOST!!!! - Foxy-jim - 11-01-2012

The rods on the TU engines are really weak!

Re: BOOST!!!! - silverzx - 11-01-2012

I'd like to see this done, something a bit different!

Would be amazing if it out did a stage 1'd XUD too.. Tongue

Re: BOOST!!!! - Foxy-jim - 11-01-2012

It would!

Re: BOOST!!!! - Rippthrough - 11-01-2012

silverzx Wrote:Would be guaranteed to out do a stage 1'd XUD too.. Tongue

Fixed.

Re: BOOST!!!! - hbomb1905 - 12-01-2012

*Runs off to ebay to find a cheap ph1 XS*

Haha, surprised you haven't done this yet MrRipp! lol

Re: BOOST!!!! - THE_Liam - 13-01-2012

Yeah, I'd love to see a 3 cylinder 1050cc turbo 306 lol

Re: BOOST!!!! - Pugmarshall - 17-01-2012

Not sure if this has been mentioned, but there are 500+bhp 106 GTi turbo's out there, and even higher abroad. Also, there's even a 1.1 turbo on youtube and IIRC @ 6 PSi it pulled ~140bhp?

I say do it, I would definately do it personally Smile

Re: BOOST!!!! - Foxy-jim - 17-01-2012

Those are big gains!

Re: BOOST!!!! - mjcook1984 - 18-01-2012

heres an ebay auction that might be of interest if your still thinking of doing this upto £100 so far with t28 turbo, manifold, intercoller & pipes, modified sump, dump valve and oil catch tank .

Re: BOOST!!!! - kingy - 02-02-2012

shit, missed that one.

Re: BOOST!!!! - Pugmarshall - 09-02-2012

This one's nippy (106 GTi)

That's no normal 106. That's Colin's 400bhp one I think!

Re: BOOST!!!! - Pugmarshall - 09-02-2012

yeah it's Colin from ATSpeed's, 410bhp IIRC? I know it's not normal OR cheap lol but it's inspiration for the OP! Big Grin

It is inspiration. It's a f*cking monster that thing! He put a vid of it going around Nuremberg and it just didn't stop! (until the gear linkage fell off!)
