RE: Project 16v - darrenjlobb - 17-08-2016 These heads are normally absolutely disgusting when you first get them! To the point my initial attack normally involves the pressure washer straight to the ports! Good to see another 16v build going on, lost count of them all now! Flipping egr See post #26 for the head being blasted RE: Project 16v - Piggy - 04-09-2016 Best get on with this really... Just lack of time. But got in the shed and took the sheet off it the block. Honed the bores lightly, didnt need much. Also cleaned the deck and all the flange faces and put a thread die through all the threads. Washed down with cleaner. Need to clean the headbolt threads out and then can start reassembly finally... Maybe it will get moving then Project 16v - bashbarnard - 04-09-2016 Come on man. Taking ages. At least mone is making good progress. Oh wait its still sitting where it was 3 months ago lol Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk RE: Project 16v - Piggy - 04-09-2016 Crank may go in tomorrow. Valves need lapping...16 of them...keep putting it off ![]() Gotta get it done. Need 16v done... So can do Kev... RE: Project 16v - welshpug - 04-09-2016 sod lapping, off to a machine shop and get them done properly ![]() RE: Project 16v - Stef205 - 04-09-2016 drill and fuel pipe makes it much easier RE: Project 16v - Piggy - 04-09-2016 (04-09-2016, 09:00 PM)welshpug Wrote: sod lapping, off to a machine shop and get them done properly Lazee much? ![]() (04-09-2016, 09:12 PM)Stef205 Wrote: drill and fuel pipe makes it much easier Thats not a bad call...I usually use a drill tbh but no access in on these heads... But bit of rubber hose... You genius. Newsflash: 'valves getting lapped tomorrow' ![]() RE: Project 16v - Stef205 - 04-09-2016 recently did a hdi head this way luckily it was missing 8 valves ha RE: Project 16v - Piggy - 04-09-2016 Also need to fashion an adaptor for my valve spring compressor as the access is no good on this head for my tool and the springs are 25lb heavier too RE: Project 16v - welshpug - 05-09-2016 not lazy at all, 3 angle seats and valves done to suit, far more accurate and it opened the throats up. https://flic.kr/p/HsFQSZ RE: Project 16v - Piggy - 05-09-2016 Nearest machine shop is a 40min drive away. So once dropped off and returned, getting close to 1.5hrs. I'd have to do that again to get it back. And do both trips in working hours. And pay the stupidly extortionate bill By which time i could have lapped the valves and rebuilt/fitted the head! ![]() RE: Project 16v - welshpug - 05-09-2016 that work cost £40 for the valves, £56 for the seats. its an hour from me each way. lapping wont give you the same results. RE: Project 16v - Piggy - 05-09-2016 The results I want is lapped valve seats... So yes, I'll get the result i want with doing it myself ![]() RE: Project 16v - mr_fish - 05-09-2016 Got a pillar drill? Could make something like this up then. ![]() Project 16v - bashbarnard - 05-09-2016 (05-09-2016, 11:09 AM)mr_fish Wrote: Got a pillar drill? Woohoo Its had a bigger meaning to me than perhaps some realise. After some personal downturns recently...I've not been motivated tbh or just too in pain/exhausted. So this is so gooooood :-) RE: Project 16v - Dum-Dum - 08-09-2016 (08-09-2016, 03:39 PM)Piggy Wrote: Its had a bigger meaning to me than perhaps some realise.
