Have you added a parent as a named driver onto the policy? There's nothing whatsoever illegal about that, and it's almost guaranteed to lower the premium

Added my dad but didn't drop it much haven't really got contact with him anymore unfortunately

Having 2 'older' female named drivers brought it down massively when I was younger although found as you get older it makes no difference

Grandparents? Aunts/uncles? Just try adding family members of all ages as named drivers to quotes, I'd be surprised if you can't find a relative that helps bring the cost down..

my 17 year old daughter first car on passing test
206 1.1 own insurance with me added £1132.23
shes changed cars to a 1.4 206 after 6 months and had a premium reduction
she can get a further reduction on a 2ltr hdi 306 i really don't understand insurance policy's

Most modified insurers are 21 and over unfortunately
We have a club discount with Greenlight so when you turn 21, phone them and get a quote. Speak to Neil and mention the club and you should get a very nice premium. Mine is £500 a year FC which i didnt think was too bad on a highly modified car at 23 in a E rated post code lol
I may give them a ring in that case

You're downfall currently is the fact you've not been driving long and have 0NCB. It's all well and good Pebbles quoting for you age 20, driving 2 years with 1ncb.... trouble is you're 20, been driving under a year and 0NCB... that's a HUGE difference in insurance terms

Looking at that screenshot which doesn't seem to be in this 'quote' reply you are being spanked by £350 for paying by installments.
Now I'm not a typical example at 42 years of age but having had to resit my test. that I passed in October, I am a new driver & I had similar quotes, and also ridiculous ones for my HDi.
The worst was over £6500 fully comp not sure how for a £400 car, the best was £900 fully comp but they wanted a ridiculous amount of interest which would have been a £300 deposit then £350 per month for 9 months.
After doing the comparison sites and finding Churchill to be reasonable, I then went to the Churchill site and got £60 off plus breakdown cover for free. This came in at around your figure of £1700 but without the interest on payments I only have to pay £150 per month after the deposit
My advice would be don't go cheap but maybe think that a policy that costs a bit more may have hidden benefits as I found
