RE: Joey, its not so over, quite yet, maybe. - Tom - 18-02-2014 I have mechanical sympathy. But if im at a fricken "race track" f*ck everything lol! RE: Joey, its not so over, quite yet, maybe. - Tom - 19-02-2014 Discuss... I would have alot more rear poke than that though. RE: Joey, its not so over, quite yet, maybe. - Midnightclub - 19-02-2014 Looks good but not sure if the steels look better? RE: Joey, its not so over, quite yet, maybe. - Craigus - 19-02-2014 Would look good with wider rears! RE: Joey, its not so over, quite yet, maybe. - Chris_90 - 19-02-2014 Looks ok....... Not massive fan if it had more poke might look bit better. RE: Joey, its not so over, quite yet, maybe. - Tom - 19-02-2014 Better choice of tyre in that size aswell. RE: Joey, its not so over, quite yet, maybe. - Frosty - 19-02-2014 Im not a fan tbh but I've never been a fan of BBS and them sort of wheels. I think it looks good on the steels in my option RE: Joey, its not so over, quite yet, maybe. - darrenjlobb - 24-02-2014 Just as a little bit of an update to Toms thread, have been manically busy with a local panto / work just recently so sadly not been able to devote much time to this, but anyway, a few photos / updates to fill the thread up a bit, and hopefully make tom smile a bit heh. So went over to toms to pickup his new bottom end as he is without a car largely at the moment: Totally stock nearly bare block. Tearing it down: Rods and pistons out: Pre deck clean and bare block: OEM rods next to replacement rods: And on the pistons: New set of "used" bearings from a breakers yard, the ones with the rods were very worn, its very much a budget build, so rather than using new went for a "good" set of used, at the end of the day if theres meat on the bearings its not going to make a lot of difference in the grand sceme of things, but i told Tom to get something as wasnt happy with the old ones. Re assembly after chemical cleaning the block: Back together and a lick of paint: Sump cleanout: The ARP studs from my mtdi, i forced Tom to buy these from me as i have turbo plans for this engine and its just not worth the farce of lifting heads all the time for a set of studs, so they got banged in along with new MLS gasket. Thats about as far as i got chance to get due to other commitments. hoping to tear old engine out / replace bent valves / get rest of motor built up asap, make adaptors etc for new blower, and get the thing back in the car / fix all the broken / dodgy wiring and exhaus and get it up and running. RE: Joey, its not so over, quite yet, maybe. - Chris_90 - 24-02-2014 Loving all this ninja stuff going on so I'm guessing you not gonna say that the turbo is?? RE: Joey, its not so over, quite yet, maybe. - darrenjlobb - 24-02-2014 Dont know yet dont have one. RE: Joey, its not so over, quite yet, maybe. - Frosty - 24-02-2014 Looking good, Im soon to join the blue block club RE: Joey, its not so over, quite yet, maybe. - Tom - 24-02-2014 OMG its painted! That looks amazing. Proper ninja update, this is the first im hearing of it RE: Joey, its not so over, quite yet, maybe. - Piggy - 25-02-2014 Getting tingles!!! RE: Joey, its not so over, quite yet, maybe. - Tom - 26-02-2014 Bloody car it just breaks everything lol. Darren just sent me a heroic picture of the gearbox mount that properly snapped and bent itself, hellish! Will let him do an update tonight. Really starting to shift no Darrens got some spare time, yay! On the downside i got to retax the bastard in the next few days RE: Joey, its not so over, quite yet, maybe. - Piggy - 26-02-2014 So darren has a 3day deadline then RE: Joey, its not so over, quite yet, maybe. - Tom - 26-02-2014 Hahaha noooo im not giving him a deadline, once he gets the spare time to work he does loads, its just finding time, but hes good at what he does so im happy to wait RE: Joey, its not so over, quite yet, maybe. - darrenjlobb - 26-02-2014 Small update, Had some spare hours this afternoon, sadly managed to misplace the dowell for head / block location, and after scrapping all my french xud crap, I cant locate another, its possible it was never fitted as it seems to have just vanished, but for now ill blame myself for loosing it :p Anyway, without this im unable to assemble much more of the new motor, so decided id hoink the old one out instead. At least find out what went wrong / strip it down as I need just about everything off the old one to build up the new one. So disconnect everything / drop the shafts: Make a slightly worrying discovery after removing the battery! It seems the gearbox mount holder has never had the lower bolts (most important ones) fitted.. Tom didnt even know they were meant to be there so obviously always been missing, which has resulted in 180hp of XUD trying to rotate on two 2cm pieces of tin, which as you can see didnt go well, infact, it was cm's away from breaking off and dropping the trans on the floor for lols during a rag, anyway, thats another job to weld up heh: And a close up of where the missing bolts should be (similar design to a 306): Hoink Hoink: Engine bay was absulute state covered in oil / veg / dirt and grime, nothing worse than fitting a nice new engine to a oilheap, so double degreased and pressure washed the bay to tidy things up, (feel free to pop over with some white paint tom and do the job proper heh), Forgot to take photo before but after a cleanup: Wanted to find out what was kicking off with the old motor while it was out, so after stripping it to a bare block i gased the sump off to see what was going on (half the bolts are rounded out ) : It would appear she spun a bearing heh,Not entirely sure on cause, other bearings all seem fine, so dont think oil pressure was at fault, possibly an assembly fault, who knows, but its wrecked it either way! No wonder piston was slapping the head! Thats about it for now. CHeers n gone RE: Joey, its not so over, quite yet, maybe. - Tom - 26-02-2014 Wahoo! Good work Lobb man Joey, on the road to recovery... - td_dan - 26-02-2014 Tom i may have another gearbox mount if you need it ill have a look and send it down to darren, the 306 one doesnt fit unless you maybe drill another hole RE: Joey, on the road to recovery... - Tom - 26-02-2014 Gonna weld her up But thanks for the offer chap. Havent got a header tank have you? RE: Joey, on the road to recovery... - Matt-Rallye - 26-02-2014 That gearbox mount is savage! Loving the project though RE: Joey, on the road to recovery... - Paul_13 - 26-02-2014 If you cover postage Tom and give us a few beer tokens I've got a battery tray in the garage I can send off.
