This EUC needs chucking in the bin RE: So... the inevitable 'HDi won't start' thread... - andywhy - 12-12-2012 ECU's should come with buck/boost converters to run the damn things under low battery situations. If it can crank, I'm sure it can be made so it can shove a few amps into the ECU as well... I've seen many situations where modern cars won't start despite having enough to crank. Give me mech derv any day. My POS VW almost didn't start for the same reason this morning I reckon. It was slow cranking but took 3x as many turns to fire. It was only -2! My 306 managed to fire every time first turn even at -15! RE: So... the inevitable 'HDi won't start' thread... - Toms306 - 12-12-2012 I'm pretty sure it won't allow fuel in until its turning over fast enough (450rpm or something) so its not due to the ECU not having enough voltage afaik, just the fact the starter hasn't got enough power to turn it quick enough. RE: So... the inevitable 'HDi won't start' thread... - darrenjlobb - 12-12-2012 A diesel will fire from bugger all motoring, the ecu just needs tonnes of power / injector drivers need a wack of power, espicaly on these style ones... Ive managed to start an escort derv before on a battery so flat i had to pull 2 glow plugs to get it to motor fast enough, let it run on 2 to charge the battery, and put them back in and fire up ![]() ![]() RE: So... the inevitable 'HDi won't start' thread... - Mr Whippy - 12-12-2012 Hehe... The joys of the mechanical stuff. I always think it's good to have one for the day the apocalypse comes. EMP blast, War of the Worlds alien attack... just roll your XUD off and run it on veg oil... sorted ![]() Don't need any electrics hehe. Dave So... the inevitable 'HDi won't start' thread... - Jukie88 - 12-12-2012 Hmmm I wiggled the brown relay on mine and it started but it the issue again do may change the battery as its been in the car for a good 3/4 years and it's not a particularly good one so it could be just a power prob not enough getting to all the right components ?? RE: So... the inevitable 'HDi won't start' thread... - Fooby - 13-12-2012 /ponders XUD Estate... RE: So... the inevitable 'HDi won't start' thread... - Poodle - 13-12-2012 Still having problems? RE: So... the inevitable 'HDi won't start' thread... - Fooby - 13-12-2012 na, new battery sorted it out. Fooby you can't change a wishbone without getting broken, having a moan and then sittting in your car for 4hours sulking.... Start a project thread, this should be funny! ![]() RE: So... the inevitable 'HDi won't start' thread... - Scott - 14-12-2012 You forgot to mention that the wishbone didn't even get changed ![]() RE: So... the inevitable 'HDi won't start' thread... - Ed Doe - 14-12-2012 And that I spent the half hour under the car in the pics pouring rain refitting the old one so he could drive it home! RE: So... the inevitable 'HDi won't start' thread... - Ruan - 14-12-2012 It's not so much the crank speed or amperage to the ECU, its due to the fact that the fuel pressure doesn't come up enough when its cranking that slow... It needs a certain amount of pressure to start opening the injectors otherwise it grumps and says there's not enough rail pressure... Sadly its one of the first signs of a worn HP pump... RE: So... the inevitable 'HDi won't start' thread... - Poodle - 14-12-2012 ![]() Man, you'd have a right old time with an XUD, if nothing else you really would have no excuse for taking it to a garage - they can be consistently fixed by a monkey with a sledgehammer. So... the inevitable 'HDi won't start' thread... - Jukie88 - 26-12-2012 Ok I've given up on the hdi today it's had a new battery new Injectors new fuels pumps all wiring checked and fine immobiliser is ok too wiggled the relay behind Ecu which made it start last time but this this time nothing !!!!!! I've given up should I replace the relay too ??? It's costing me a fortune RE: So... the inevitable 'HDi won't start' thread... - Poodle - 26-12-2012 Haven't you replaced that relay yet? One of the easiest/cheapest things to replace, would be my first port of call. I'll take another look at your thread if you dig it out and update it for us, will try to work out what's happening for you. So... the inevitable 'HDi won't start' thread... - Jukie88 - 27-12-2012 Not yet lol you've mentioned it to ne many of a time I just wiggled it and boom it was ok unfortunately I replaced everything else before doing that :-( but now wiggling doesn't work so think it's caput :-( what's annoying is it catches then immediately goes back to turning over :-( RE: So... the inevitable 'HDi won't start' thread... - Poodle - 28-12-2012 That is odd... Have you managed to get it on diagnostics yet? So... the inevitable 'HDi won't start' thread... - Jukie88 - 29-12-2012 Not yet got it Cooke in for the 2nd jan for diagnostics :-) hopefully thatl shed some light So... the inevitable 'HDi won't start' thread... - Jukie88 - 03-01-2013 YESSSSS after two years of stop start motoring it turned out to be a fuel pump relay !!!!!!! Problem solve XD hopefully. I more temperamental starting !!!!!! Happy days !!!! B RE: So... the inevitable 'HDi won't start' thread... - Poodle - 03-01-2013 Haha glad you got it sorted matey. *cough* rep *cough* So... the inevitable 'HDi won't start' thread... - Jukie88 - 04-01-2013 I know I need to rep you many many times for your help but how the hell to I do it on tapatalk !!!! also I'm assuming the fuel pump relay is that one behind the Ecu ?? RE: So... the inevitable 'HDi won't start' thread... - Poodle - 04-01-2013 Hahah no worries, i can't use the forum on my phone either. ![]() So... the inevitable 'HDi won't start' thread... - Jukie88 - 04-01-2013 All the ball ache for the sake of 15 quid lol lesson learned !!! |
