I might mask mine up differently just to go against the grain...spare lights turned up today!

RE: Valeo black mask guide! - Oil-burner - 19-10-2012

Get some pics of the clusters up when you've put them on.

When the headlight is in the oven does it go lense up or horizontally like it would be when in the car?

RE: Valeo black mask guide! - Oil-burner - 27-10-2012

Looks a good job that gareth7, Rear tints aren't too much either!

Just lay them flat as they would be on the car jay8086, probably the only way you'll get them in the oven anyway!

RE: Valeo black mask guide! - gareth7 - 28-10-2012

Thanks oil-burner......my first attempt at the rear clusters ended up a little........illegal looking and dangerous when I test fitted them and had a look at the lights when they were switched on. It was a case of 'oh shit, best get the thinners out and start again' lol

RE: Valeo black mask guide! - C.A.R. - 07-02-2013

Can I ask what sealant people are using to re-seal them? I have some black all-purpose all-weather sealant from B&Q which was meant for something else - will this do the trick?

Yeah mate that will work!
Id go for black or clear if I did them again.

I've just started to use black sealant on a set I finished over the weekend, you can get a really neat finish with it.

RE: Valeo black mask guide! - Rich306 - 19-02-2013

Tiger seal is what i use! Wink

RE: Valeo black mask guide! - Shea - 20-02-2013

did you remove all the wiring from inside the light before putting into the oven??

RE: Valeo black mask guide! - Oil-burner - 20-02-2013

No mate just bang it in!
Take the bulbs out and you're good to go

RE: Valeo black mask guide! - Puggie - 11-03-2013

Fantastic guide just started my black masks

i used the heat gun method with awesome results

car looks evil as foook

RE: Valeo black mask guide! - Oil-burner - 12-03-2013

You did very well if you managed valeos with a heatgun mate, you sure theyre not depos?
Yeah makes a massive difference, I love mine! Smile

Re: Valeo black mask guide! - Puggie - 12-03-2013

Got Lucas on them either way result

I used to do an adjuster replacement service and lens refurb service for bmw Angel eyes so heat gun is the best method for not causing any damage if i am honest

RE: Valeo black mask guide! - Oil-burner - 12-03-2013

Lucas???
Possibly so but honestly valeos are stuck like shit to a blanket, even in the oven you only have a small bracket of time to get them open in one go.
Plus if you're careful you wont damage them anyway, mine are bang on.

Re: Valeo black mask guide! - Puggie - 12-03-2013

Yeah man deffo Lucas lights. Either way bud top marks for your guide was spot on cheers Big Grin

RE: Valeo black mask guide! - Oil-burner - 12-03-2013

Hmmm never seen lucas crystals before tbh.
Nice one mate, glad its still helping people out.

RE: Valeo black mask guide! - Tallguy_2 - 22-03-2013

Are all crystal lights valeo's?

RE: Valeo black mask guide! - Niall - 22-03-2013

Nah original ones are but depo do pattern ones which you find are quite common. Much easier to open up but I don't think they fit as well.

RE: Valeo black mask guide! - Scott - 22-03-2013

That's right. Depo fitment is slightly off where it meets the wing.

RE: Valeo black mask guide! - rd070707 - 22-03-2013

I started this to find I have one depo and one valeo. How does the process for depo differ?

RE: Valeo black mask guide! - Oil-burner - 22-03-2013

You can use a heat gun to open them, ive heard you can even do it with a good hair drier.!!

Tbh id have a go with the valeo and if you get on ok look for another instead of having one of each.

RE: Valeo black mask guide! - Tallguy_2 - 22-03-2013

Sweet guys, how do I tell which I may have?

Thanks for your help

RE: Valeo black mask guide! - Oil-burner - 22-03-2013

Its on the top of the light as you open the bonnet

RE: Valeo black mask guide! - Niall - 22-03-2013

one fits right and the other doesnt lol

RE: Valeo black mask guide! - gareth7 - 23-03-2013

Look on the lens where the bonnet would over lap on the top of the light......it'll say Valeo in small writing.

RE: Valeo black mask guide! - Tallguy_2 - 23-03-2013

Mine don't say valeo, hmmm I'm gonna have a crack!

RE: Valeo black mask guide! - Puggie - 23-03-2013

Rubbish picture but hey

Yeah i managed them with a heat gun. Used to refurb BMW e39 headlights, replacing the adjusters you needed to crack them open to acess them. and the heat gun method is something that i used all the time but the oven method is also a good one

next step is to go over the lenses with 1000, then 1500, and finally a 2000 grit sandpaper to make them all nice and new
