RE: Prism7guy's track car - Just Sean - 12-10-2012 Do you have any dimensions mate? Gonna have a go at making something similiar out of a sheet of ali... Need to re route my battery for my scremer pipe, was gonna put it in the boot, but thats a much better idea! Where did you get your mount from? RE: Prism7guy's track car - Dum-Dum - 12-10-2012 That undertray is pretty well thought out, how is the bit near the exhaust coping with the heat? RE: Prism7guy's track car - C.A.R. - 12-10-2012 Looks like he retained the standard heatshield? So I can't imagine it would even have an effect... I don't have a drawing of the undertray, i seem to remember that a metre squared, or a metre by 900mm was all i needed to make it. When i have it off next i'll draw it up with some dimensions for you and put them on here. To make mine i sat the rear end on some axle stands then held the sheet how i wanted it, then drew the profile of it with a marker pen, then used a stanley knife to cut it to shape. Which mount do you mean? (12-10-2012, 12:31 PM)Dum-Dum Wrote: That undertray is pretty well thought out, how is the bit near the exhaust coping with the heat? It hasnt melted yet, so can't be doing too badly. ![]() (12-10-2012, 04:07 PM)Rippthrough Wrote:(11-10-2012, 05:05 PM)Prism7guy Wrote: then i can buy some adjustable topmounts to sort out the camber at the front. No, no i don't. ![]() RE: Prism7guy's track car - Prism7guy - 13-10-2012 Just had it on a rolling road. Quite pleased with the outcome. ![]() ![]() RE: Prism7guy's track car - Just Sean - 13-10-2012 (12-10-2012, 07:04 PM)Prism7guy Wrote:(12-10-2012, 09:15 AM)sean-306 Wrote: Do you have any dimensions mate? I bought the mount off a guy on the gti6 owners club, but i think he got it from powervamp originally. RE: Prism7guy's track car - Poodle - 14-10-2012 Reading this has helped develop some of my own ideas a bit further, think i'm going to spend the day in the garage, hmmm... Re: Prism7guy's track car - Alee83 - 14-10-2012 Was a really good RR result that, was good to put another face to a name too.... ![]() RE: Prism7guy's track car - Prism7guy - 03-11-2012 Recently fitted new rose joints to the droplinks, and fitted new boots lined with grease to protect them. Also fitted new anti roll bar bushes at the same time. ![]() Took it to Oulton park yesterday, wore out around 3mm of the pads by dinner time, the results: ![]() ![]() Replaced them within 30 mins and was back out for the afternoon. Got a knocking noise which can be heard in the videos, hopefully that will be sorted over the winter. Since the old brake pads had worn out i decided to put my AP racing 4 pots to use rather than spend money on more pads for the standard calipers. Took loads of measurements and started drawing things up, i wanted to fit 310mm or 315mm discs under my 15" TD Pro race 1.2's if it was possible. In the end i went with 310's and had to get some custom made pads to suit the setup, the biggest issue was spacing the rotor back as far as i could towards the ball joint, meaning i wouldnt have to space the wheel out so much, but ensuring i wouldnt have any balljoint to rotor contact. I'll let the pictures do the talking. ![]() (Testing how far i could space the rotor back) ![]() (Testing the caliper position etc on a spare hub) ![]() (Mock brackets checking clearance in the wheel, also seeing how far the wheel would have to be spaced out) ![]() (Started turning the bells) ![]() (Second end of the bell being turned) ![]() (Bell drilled and countersunk) ![]() (Caliper bracket milled) ![]() (Few ally bits hard anodised black) ![]() (Calipers after powder coating) ![]() (All new pistons, seal kit, disc to bell mounting kit and bleed nipples) ![]() (On the car) ![]() (Wheel on) I also decided it was about time i sorted out the rear beam. I had some 21mm torsion bars and a 30mm anti roll bar stashed under my bed for months ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Basically fitted two new trailing arm shafts, all new bearings and seals etc. Since i go to the nurburgring every year i needed to get some new seats without the ears which wrap around my head to meet the new rules/regulations, also had to add padding to the roll cage wherever i could touch it. So this is the result of that: ![]() ![]() ![]() I think the final thing i did before i went was to have the oil cooler lines crimped properly rather than use jubilee clips as i noticed one had started weeping a bit and didnt fancy the idea of losing all the oil randomly. ![]() I also bought and fitted some new topmounts for the front, giving around an extra 2 degrees of negative camber, after fitting them i re-tracked the car and set it to parallel toe just like before. I eventually got to the 'ring, nice weather all weekend for once but it's way too hot in a car with lexan windows and no real way of cooling it down. Got nine successful laps in over the weekend, but the track was almost constantly closed on the saturday so only managed to get 4 laps in that day. On the 4th lap i carried too much speed into a corner with a BMW ahead, they braked and started to get close to the kerb leaving not a lot of room for me so i had to get two wheels on the grass and go over the high kerb, that whacked the exhaust and started a crack around where the downpipe enters the centre silencer, didnt take long for it to completely snap. ![]() But i carried on with it like this through sunday, turned everyones heads in the 'ring carparks with the state of how it sounded, not for it being a nice sound either. ![]() I'm sure it was down on power/torque like this as it would bog down in 6th in places, but i managed to get a new pb of 8:35BTG so all in all it was a successful trip. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lCmU-aVTVKU Since i got home i got the exhaust off, took out the perforated tube that ran through the centre box and welded the tube back onto the box. It doesnt seem much louder, i think it may be down on power a little but it'll do until i get a new exhaust sorted, it turns out this one is only 2" in places so i don't know if going for 2.25" would release a bit more or not, i know it seems to feel a bit restricted from 6,500rpm onwards. Anyway, i'm hoping to be boosted in the next couple of years so i'll probably go for a 2.5" system making sure it will keep the car quiet enough for trackdays. I'll end the update with a few pic's from the 'ring. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() RE: Prism7guy's track car - Grant - 02-08-2013 I have been following your build on the '6 forum. Whilst I am not a member there, it has proved a very interesting read. This is an amazing build. The attention to detail, and bottomless pit of shiney bits is incredible. Keep us updated! RE: Prism7guy's track car - 306GT30 - 02-08-2013 looking great!!!! RE: Prism7guy's track car - Anton - 02-08-2013 Looks amazing, cant believe i have not seen this before. Great attention to detail. 8.35 is awesome, standard power? RE: Prism7guy's track car - Jenkosowls - 02-08-2013 Think the dunno day it had made 187bhp or 178bho something like that some doubt the result but at end of the day there was cars there that made bang on book spec Btw lookin into another dyno day soon! RE: Prism7guy's track car - Piggy - 02-08-2013 this is epic. makes my build feel pathetic RE: Prism7guy's track car - Prism7guy - 02-08-2013 Thanks lads, as far as i know the engine is standard (picked it up from southampton for £300), it got 182bhp 158lb ft at a dyno day last year. I suspect it may have cams as it doesnt run smoothly around 2000rpm and it can sometimes sound cammed at idle, the ecu was from the previous engine so hasn't been mapped. I'll probably be up for another dyno day to see if it gets similar to last time, i think a wheel bearing is on the way out now though. ![]() RE: Prism7guy's track car - Scott - 02-08-2013 What a great update, you should post more often! Thanks for posting the 'ring video too, great watch ![]() RE: Prism7guy's track car - Matt - 02-08-2013 Love this build. Got to be one of the only blazes I like! RE: Prism7guy's track car - Jenkosowls - 02-08-2013 Don't remember seeing this at fcs this year didn't fancy it? I've been trying to save money recently and Castle Combe seemed a bit far to justify taking the car so soon after it's trip to the 'ring. I'll probably take it to FCS next year if i've not bought a house and living like a hermit by then. ![]() RE: Prism7guy's track car - martyn92 - 03-08-2013 Great video of the ring!
