RE: Project idea... - Connor - 24-06-2012 No i actually mean using the 3dr as the main vehicle, as atleast tools keep as much strength in the body as possible and don't have to worry about chopping and welding b pillars RE: Project idea... - Carlos182 - 24-06-2012 Here is what I'm thinking of doing ![]() Keeps the strength of the whole car as much as possible this way. Just weld in a bit behind the pillars... Easiest way of doing it and probably makes things a hell of a lot easier... And the project thread of it if anyone wants a gander... http://uk-mkivs.net/forums/t/446522.aspx?PageIndex=1 RE: Project idea... - Poodle - 25-06-2012 That's barely any extra room at all though, still think you'd be uber-cramped. Will be epic however you do it though tbf. The idea's been floating around for ages, about time somebody manned up and actually did it! RE: Project idea... - Connor - 25-06-2012 But if you cut behind the b pillar of a 5dr 306, there will be f*ck all leg room, but with a 3dr I think you could get away with that RE: Project idea... - Kezzieboy - 25-06-2012 So you've given up on the estate idea then? It'd work on a 5door, and would be pretty cool, but the bed would be fairly small, and as you've seen, it's been done with other cars already, estate would be pretty original! RE: Project idea... - Connor - 25-06-2012 No chop up a 3dr and stick and state boot on the end lol RE: Project idea... - Scott - 25-06-2012 3dr front end, estate rear end. A 5dr front is wayyyy to short. RE: Project idea... - InkedMuttley - 25-06-2012 Only problem I could see is that what weight you've lost with chopping the roof off you're gunna get a fair bit back using the metal to reinforce the structure which you will need as otherwise it'll just be like driving a giant metal jelly although you could do a sort of structure that welds in to each corner sort of like a cross shape and then brace it through the middle stick some dynamat or something between the cross sections to keep the noise down a bit and add a bit more bulk and then false floor it...could be viable and fun! RE: Project idea... - Poodle - 26-06-2012 Use a cabby chassis... ![]() RE: Project idea... - Niall - 26-06-2012 I think the only viable way of building it and it being practical is estate shell with 3dr sides. RE: Project idea... - Connor - 26-06-2012 No not at all niall, using a 3dr and extending the boot/flatbed is far more easier than using an estate and cutting/moving the b pillars RE: Project idea... - Carlos182 - 26-06-2012 We'll see what happens when the grinder comes out haha! The whole panel comes off and welds directly in as we saw when theat guy did the 3 door sedan. You would just need to cut a bit of it off for the bed. RE: Project idea... - procta - 26-06-2012 why dont you van it up like the old vauxhall astras and mk4 ford escorts? they were two door. |
