I love the 3 almost identical responses ![]() RE: What diesel engines do you rate? - Niall - 06-04-2016 Right, im going out on a limb with this one. Not suggesting it because of tuning potential or ultimate power but the best engine ive had extensive experience of is the Hyundai/Kia D4FB. 126hp 1.6, enough power for general day to day driving, can do 80mpg if you try (and 50 without trying), cheap tax. I did 85k on one and it just would not die. And anyone that knows how i treat company cars knows thats saying something ![]() RE: What diesel engines do you rate? - aircool - 07-04-2016 The Alfa / FIAT group 2.4 ? RE: What diesel engines do you rate? - lolsteve - 07-04-2016 1.9 PD? Tuning wise they make good power, pretty resilient and fairly easy to work on. Newer german stuff can fk right off though RE: What diesel engines do you rate? - Toms306 - 07-04-2016 Which part of the PD is resilient? Not the camshaft, lifters, turbo or DMF anyway. ![]() RE: What diesel engines do you rate? - Matt-Rallye - 07-04-2016 Alfa / fiat / vaux 1.9 Mjet motors are absolute cack, ever tried taking the injectors out? lady garden, that is all. PD engines are chocolate shite. How about the 2.0 DCi175 motor? mines been bombproof and i haven't heard any other horror stories. Beautiful smooth engine and the addition of twin balancer shafts over the DCi150 Motor makes it so much smoother & refined! rarely need to go above 2k rpm RE: What diesel engines do you rate? - welshpug - 07-04-2016 any modern engine will have its inherent flaws, can't argue that some will make silly power, or live a very long life IF looked after properly. DMF is not part of the engine, its transmission and a consumable part. Sorry mei but a flywheel is a vital engine component not transmission. RE: What diesel engines do you rate? - welshpug - 07-04-2016 my bmw doesn't have a flywheel. that's how vital it is. RE: What diesel engines do you rate? - Matt-Rallye - 07-04-2016 Here we go.. for the most part, 99% of engines rely heavily on the flywheel. Engines over time have done so for many many many years. RE: What diesel engines do you rate? - welshpug - 07-04-2016 14% of cars in the uk don't have a flywheel. 90% in the US. 95% in Japan! RE: What diesel engines do you rate? - Toms306 - 07-04-2016 Guess they're not keen on manuals in Japan!? ![]() RE: What diesel engines do you rate? - Matt-Rallye - 07-04-2016 (07-04-2016, 10:58 AM)welshpug Wrote: 14% of cars in the uk don't have a flywheel. I live in the UK and i believe 86% is the majority, ta for proving my point ![]() A torque converter acts pretty much as a fluid flywheel for all intents and purposes RE: What diesel engines do you rate? - welshpug - 07-04-2016 (07-04-2016, 10:03 AM)Matt-Rallye Wrote: 99% that's not 86%. RE: What diesel engines do you rate? - lolsteve - 07-04-2016 Pretty resistant in that they'll make good power with stock internals or it'll just keep on running even HGF ![]() Okay the cam/lift problem is a bit sucky but all engines have a flaw, and poor servicing by owners in the mindset of "its German so it's reliable/doesn't need looking after" probably doesn't help. I imagine half the turbo issues are user created similar in how XUD throw rods or possbibly done by bad maps asking for too much boost. Beautiful smooth engine and the addition of twin balancer shafts over the DCi150 Motor makes it so much smoother & refined! rarely need to go above 2k rpm Terrifyingly unreliable! The M9R suffers from loads of issues, timing chains (which they say are 'for life'...), shit DPF, injector issues as they're early generation piezo and then always seize like f*ck on the way out, horrifically heavy rotating mass from the balancer shafts - same issue as the 2.2HDi there, so they're REALLY slow to rev. RE: What diesel engines do you rate? - Poodle - 07-04-2016 Tbh if it's got a renault badge on it just avoid it like the plague. There are no other manufacturers that produce consistently awful diesel engines, but renault manages it without fail. Don't get me started on the 1.9! Tbf i haven't seen a lot of problems with the 2.0 yet, perhaps they've finally cracked it, i won't hold out hope though lol. RE: What diesel engines do you rate? - thododd - 07-04-2016 I know its not a diesel but I really enjoyed my renault F7P. The electrics were utterly horrendous but the engine itself was great My volvo B200 feels very diesel-y .... does that count. A few of them have done a million miles, makes an XUD look short lived ![]() Other than that i have nothing to add to this discussion. Ford endura 1.8, 2.0 8v HDi, bmw 3.0, merc om604/6. Basically anything ive liked has already been mentioned other than the 1.5DCi, we abused and neglected the poor old clio and it didnt give a shit, between that and the DV6 it seems like most of the cars in the country have them now RE: What diesel engines do you rate? - silverzx - 08-04-2016 (06-04-2016, 09:38 PM)Dum-Dum Wrote:(06-04-2016, 09:02 PM)Dum-Dum Wrote: Why is that a surprise?
