lol cr@p my pants when it went - hence pulling the battery.

Hmm.. so it sounds ok?
Will pull the coilpack connections one-by-one tomorrow, but I already know what it sounds like on 3 cylinders and it's not this. Confused

dont pull coil packs or injector plugs with it running you could cause no end of fuxcked ecu

RE: Loud 'POP' and blue smoke - Toms306 - 15-01-2016

Sounds ok to me!? Don't forget it will sound a bit different with a bung than a box.

Yeah but I was under the impression it was the front not the rear Smile

OKi Doki - Just gone for a test drive and apparently I've swapped in a boxer engine without realising it!
Car sounds like a scooby but without the performance! Bugger!!

Certainly down on power and responsiveness, idle is good and stable at 900, but the engine is rocking the car.
Keep coming back to some sort of misfire with the injectors?!?

RE: Loud 'POP' and blue smoke - Toms306 - 15-01-2016

Hopefully cheaper to repair than a scooby lol.

Pull the spark plugs out again and see if any are wet with fuel.

RE: Loud 'POP' and blue smoke - cully - 15-01-2016

check the stuff you have disturbed lie the injectors and cam sensor

RE: Loud 'POP' and blue smoke - mackat - 15-01-2016

A side thought - maybe there's more damage than I've realised with the 'cough' and exploding res?

RE: Loud 'POP' and blue smoke - cully - 16-01-2016

compression test time Wink

RE: Loud 'POP' and blue smoke - mackat - 16-01-2016

Out early in the freezing cold  Sad
Thought I'd have a mooch at the injectors first, spot the difference:

Either eaten by the cough or knocked off when I had the manifold out - I'm going for the former as they're bloody hard to get off!

Anyways, I've got a new set of caps on order, but thought I'd remove all the caps and put the injectors back on for at least test.

Started first time, sounded ok for about a minute then went back to sounding like a scooby at the rear end and engine bouncing on it's mounts.
If the rpm was increased it settled down with a normal 6 engine sound (as per the vid) along with the new exhaust note!

Noticed the ICV breather filter was working overtime sucking air in, a lot more than it should.
Messed around with that for a couple of minutes while keeping the engine at high revs, then all of a sudden it drops down to normal and no scooby rear!?!

Tried resetting the ECU to see if the problem would come back, but nope..??

Just been on a 40min blast with the car and it's running more than fine!
New induction sound at the front and normal exhaust at the back.

Confused Confused

RE: Loud 'POP' and blue smoke - Toms306 - 16-01-2016

Where is that cap now then? Confused

Probably dropped into the engine, these nothing stopping it. Doh

RE: Loud 'POP' and blue smoke - Toms306 - 16-01-2016

I was thinking that but not sure if it's small enough to pass a valve? Confused

Plastic vs. Metal me thinks, otherwise it would start costing a lot. Blush

I've a got a resonator you can have if you want to collect. If your around London, I may not be far away. I'm in Maidstone if your interested.

Sorry - Didn't see your post! Thanks for the offer, managed to get a bung Smile

Surely worth pulling the manifold off to see if the cap is sitting ontop of a valve and impeding it for the sake of a few pounds on a manifold gasket?
