RE: 306 1.8 xs tuning ?? - jjenn20 - 08-01-2015

I guess but insurance is a joke especially were I live and with me being 20 a gti 6 is a long way away

RE: 306 1.8 xs tuning ?? - Toms306 - 08-01-2015

If you're 20 insurance for a '6 shouldn't be that bad by now, and especially when you hit 21. For me at 22 it'd be ~£400 the year on a GTi6, less than a remapped HDi lol - but I cant fuel one for the whole year. Though by your logic maybe I should just nick the fuel, I wont be able to afford it for years otherwise. Tongue

RE: 306 1.8 xs tuning ?? - WiNgNuTz - 08-01-2015

Well if nothing else, if you do it slowly and in stages that wont affect your insurance too much, at least it gives you time to save for the bigger, more expensive parts! Wink Just please don't do it and not tell your insurance, that's just a plain d*ck idea really IMO.

And as Tom says, your insurance should drop a bit when you turn 21 as well, what sort of NCB do you have?

RE: 306 1.8 xs tuning ?? - jjenn20 - 08-01-2015

I dont have any ncb iv had my license 2 years, and my insurance on the xs is 2500

RE: 306 1.8 xs tuning ?? - Toms306 - 08-01-2015

Wow. Confused In that case, I suggest not doing any mods for now lol....

RE: 306 1.8 xs tuning ?? - WiNgNuTz - 08-01-2015

Ouch. Yeah, in your situation I'd just hang fire on the modding for now. I feel your pain though to a degree, I drove for the first 7 or 8 years as a named driver, then when I got my own insurance policy, nowhere would accept named driver ncb, so I had to start a brand new policy...proper stung even considering my age tbh. I'm 31 now, and with almost 3 years ncb I'm paying about £450 a year for my hdi, all mods declared. Getting the right insurance company helps too. Wink

RE: 306 1.8 xs tuning ?? - jjenn20 - 08-01-2015

Ino mate, in not gona do any mods at the moment, just buying them ready for next year, lil its fast enough for a seccond car, quicker that the 1.2 sxi

RE: 306 1.8 xs tuning ?? - MY95 - 08-01-2015

I wouldn't on a public forum say that you aren't going to declare your mods.... You don't know who could be on this forum as a guest or even members themselves!
For me to insure the Rallye at 19 its only £750 so try a few things to reduce your quote on a GTI6 or your XS, modified or not. Or save yourself some money and just keep your 1.8 how it is!
If it was me though id sell the 1.8 and buy a GTI6/Rallye and just enjoy it as standard for what it is.

RE: 306 1.8 xs tuning ?? - jjenn20 - 08-01-2015

How is it 750 if ur 19 id expect it to be atleast 2000 ?

RE: 306 1.8 xs tuning ?? - Eeyore - 08-01-2015

GTI6 for me when I was 20 was £950, 21 was £750 and now im £22 £450.

However with a modified 1.8 people have given up trying to quote for it when im half way through the mods list!

RE: 306 1.8 xs tuning ?? - MY95 - 08-01-2015

I live in a low insurance area, 2 years licence, 1 years ncb, drive another car and have both parents on the policy

RE: 306 1.8 xs tuning ?? - jjenn20 - 08-01-2015

My area code must be bad its 4000 for a gti 6 at the min

RE: 306 1.8 xs tuning ?? - Eeyore - 08-01-2015

Yeh thats rediculous...

RE: 306 1.8 xs tuning ?? - MY95 - 08-01-2015

Christ that's a lot, in that case id either stick with the 1.8 or sell for a HDI and get it Stage 1'd and leave be

RE: 306 1.8 xs tuning ?? - jjenn20 - 08-01-2015

Ino its stupid I payed 2500 for the year on my 1.2 corsa

How much would it cost for a gti 6 head to be fitted ?

RE: 306 1.8 xs tuning ?? - MY95 - 08-01-2015

For the cost of getting a GTI6 head fitted with the mandatory standalone ECU you could buy a HDI or GTI6!

Out of curiously mate does staring you drive another vehicle bring down premiums? I drive the company van and company cars which I guess technically is driving other vehicles. Never really thought about it that way but I guess it would be.

I've told rowell many times lol

RE: 306 1.8 xs tuning ?? - Niall - 09-01-2015

There's so many different factors to take into account when they price insurance. I'm fortunate that I can put my car on a low mileage specialist policy as I have another car as a daily but I have been in your shoes before. If I was you, don't bother with mods for now. Just concentrate on keeping a clean licence and getting a few years NCB and in this time, you can be planning what to do to your car so when you do finally get cheaper insurance, you know exactly what you're going to do.

RE: 306 1.8 xs tuning ?? - Piggy - 09-01-2015

^^^what he said.

I should have bought a cheap ph1 dturbo and left it standard and driven that for a couple years before I was 21...saved up the rest and then I wouldnt be driving a decent fast car now...not a crappy french box #bagofworms

Yeah it does, but not a huge amount, its in the 10's not hundreds.  But if you state your occupation as 'driver' you've already added a huge chunk onto your premium. lol

jen, whats your postcode and occupation?  I don't think I've ever been quoted £4000 to insure any car! lol

Really? My quote came down when I said I was a van driver aha, I did worry about that initially attempting different wordings of things I do at work such as supervisor etc and that came up cheapest.

RE: 306 1.8 xs tuning ?? - Toms306 - 09-01-2015

Oh, I see! Maybe its more HGV driving they don't like then lol.

RE: 306 1.8 xs tuning ?? - doski - 09-01-2015

look very closely when choosing your occupation it brought mine down by £200

Also as for modding just wait try stripping it, its free and you'll have more room aha

RE: 306 1.8 xs tuning ?? - jjenn20 - 10-01-2015

Its bb4 mate and warehouse operative

And I love to strip it but not for another year or two

RE: 306 1.8 xs tuning ?? - Toms306 - 10-01-2015

Only a D risk postcode, so not the worst! Warehousing also isn't a high risk job. Not sure why your insurance is so high tbh!

RE: 306 1.8 xs tuning ?? - Mattcheese31 - 10-01-2015

should have bought a xud D-turbo . . . .130-140bhp with a quick tune and looks the same as before you did it . .Smile

also yes you should always have insurance, but just in the interests of honesty and balance, even if you don't declare mods, in the event of an accident the insurance company would still pay out the 3rd party so the only person you're shafting is yourself . . Smile

306 1.8 xs tuning ?? - connorp - 10-01-2015

I've got a 1.8 and I'm 18, no NBC and my insurance is 1300 which is less than my 106 quicksilver was haha
