Rover 214si - DavidA - 22-11-2014 That doesn't sound too happy, never had any smoke from mine - even after 120k miles. Indeed, it never smoked before the repair, might take it for a drive in the dark and see it it clears up or stays. It is quite a lot of smoke though. Idles perfect, no wobbliness or cutting out business. Just need to fix the coolant fill point and its all gravy. Says its ok with water (once set) plastics and rubber, so "should" be ok?! One way to find out haha. Ohh and that brown sludge stuff is from someone putting goo like k-seal or other in there in the past, all over the coolant system, don't do it kids! ![]() ![]() RE: Rover 214si - procta - 23-11-2014 i will be switching mine to waterless coolant shortly, use the pink stuff for the coolant, as that's the proper coolant for these engines. Got the blueeee 2 year stuff in there at the moment, the first lot I put in there got lost down the exhaust... so glad I went with the cheaper for now haha. Double checked the breakdown cover and have some spare emergency water in the boot ![]() Rover 214si - tenwierdufos - 25-11-2014 We'll got it here fine, no water loss and no oil loss, temp bang on all the way here, yay. Went for a short local journey later in the day and it did some weirdness... Loss of powe, high lumpy idle and slight black smoke from the exhaust. Couldn't work out what was going on but turned it off for a couple of minutes and it was fine again?! Some strange electrical gremlin going on here... It has electronic ignition even though it has a distributor cap, possibly related to that? Or sound fueling related? Was wondering if maybe the hgf has ruined my lambda sensor? Open to ideas haha ![]() Rover 214si - tenwierdufos - 25-11-2014 Ahhh been to see a mate of mine and have a nosey. He has a theory which makes sense. It's single point injection and apparently when the injectors start to fail they can get stuck in a position, which would explain the mega over fuelling without being able to rev. Will just run some cleaner through it and see what happens haha. RE: Rover 214si - procta - 25-11-2014 check the distributor system as these can go funny and make them go a little odd. Single point injector you can rob from a R100, ( if you can find one) you will be looking at about M plate to N or a metro, but you will have to pop the bonnet on metros, as injection ones are a look of the draw when you pop the bonnet, as most were carbed. but you can get the odd injection metro.
