Yea good point, it's right on the edge there - you recon they took the belt covers off because it was rubbing??
Either a knackered tensioner or a shit-lazy belt install to not get it on right.

Car could be saved, just need to change:
Front lights
Rear lights
Front bumper
Rear bumper
Bonnet
Wheels/tyres
Rewire the entire engine bay
Repaint the roof
Hope that the bypassed heater matrix has not ruined the engine.
Change the turbo as it looks way too small there
Re-register as a diesel 2.1
Ummm no, scrap it. Nothing worth saving there. But Cambelt looks in the right place to me, plenty of tooth left showing either side (look closely on the cam shaft)

There are no teeth showing on the left side on the camshaft.. if you look closely, you can see the indentations the teeth have made in the cam belt until about 3/4 of the way across, the belt is sitting about 6-7mm off of the actual pulleys toward the shock...
if the belt is only being used for 3/4 of the strength it can provide i would worry about it failing at any particular point
