Re: Changing front struts over and swapping rear beam - Foxy-jim - 06-03-2012 Dot go for the cheap metal ones. Get the plastic ones! I would start on the back first then do the front as if you can't do the back you dot want to have ye front right down low. Trying to do the beam and lower will be a massive job in one day. Good luck... Re: Changing front struts over and swapping rear beam - Niall - 06-03-2012 About 20 quid Re: Changing front struts over and swapping rear beam - Toms306 - 06-03-2012 Foxy-jim Wrote:Dot go for the cheap metal ones. Get the plastic ones! Think Dec is just swapping beams with an already lowered one.....so its only a few bolts in the boot, brake cables and lines and thats it iirc? (Correct me if I'm wrong lol!) Also ECP plastic droplinks will be fine mate, its what I had on mine. ![]() Re: Changing front struts over and swapping rear beam - Foxy-jim - 06-03-2012 If its already lowered then ye that should be fine. Re: Changing front struts over and swapping rear beam - Toms306 - 06-03-2012 Foxy-jim Wrote:If its already lowered then ye that should be fine. Yup, tbh lowering it shouldnt be difficult as its just swapping the beam and swapping complete struts.....no need for slide hammers or spring compressors! ![]() Re: Changing front struts over and swapping rear beam - Midnightclub - 06-03-2012 Might be worth noting that sams engine is A LOT lighter than yours so you're going to be getting a lot more than a 40mm drop Changing front struts over and swapping rear beam - Matt - 06-03-2012 Tbf I'd give two days for this, a day for the beam and all it's problems and a day for the fronts and it's seized to bugery bolts lol Re: Changing front struts over and swapping rear beam - Foxy-jim - 06-03-2012 I did the fronts I under two hours! RE: Changing front struts over and swapping rear beam - declantg - 06-03-2012 There will be a couple of us doing it, gonna coat mybeam in wd40 later ready RE: Changing front struts over and swapping rear beam - declantg - 06-03-2012 And in hoping for around a 50-60mm drop on this Re: Changing front struts over and swapping rear beam - ginge191 - 06-03-2012 dec the cheap plastic drop links are fine - i used metal one's once and as soon as they took a nip or clink, they're ruined - plastic are a lot more durable for what they do... my car gets chucked all over the place and holds fine.. Changing front struts over and swapping rear beam - Matt - 06-03-2012 Foxy-jim Wrote:I did the fronts I under two hours! I took mine out for Lols, had them out adjusted and back in within hour and half. But mines been apart so much it's too easy..... Re: Changing front struts over and swapping rear beam - Foxy-jim - 06-03-2012 The spring rate will e wrong too. Re: Changing front struts over and swapping rear beam - Eeyore - 06-03-2012 Foxy-jim Wrote:The spring rate will e wrong too. True but this is Decs car! Its gotta be cheap, easily done and... a little bit crazy! ![]() Re: Changing front struts over and swapping rear beam - ginge191 - 06-03-2012 If you have a new strut made up and ready to put on including a new top mount, you could have the struts changed in less than 1 hour quite easily Changing front struts over and swapping rear beam - Matt - 06-03-2012 ginge191 Wrote:If you have a new strut made up and ready to put on including a new top mount, you could have the struts changed in less than 1 hour quite easily This. I forgot there going to be complete from rowells car Re: Changing front struts over and swapping rear beam - Foxy-jim - 06-03-2012 The fronts are easy so I would the back first! Re: Changing front struts over and swapping rear beam - ginge191 - 06-03-2012 As foxy said, the rear could take up to 2 days if you havn't got the right tools/knowledge. especially with the lines, can be annoying.. Re: Changing front struts over and swapping rear beam - Foxy-jim - 06-03-2012 And before you take anything off your car, check the bleed nipple on the brakes of the new beam! RE: Changing front struts over and swapping rear beam - declantg - 06-03-2012 How bad is that? Re: RE: Changing front struts over and swapping rear beam - ginge191 - 06-03-2012 declantg Wrote:How bad is that? the bleed nipple will be on the end of the calliper iirc, should be covered by a small plastic cap - remove the cap, make sure the bleed nipple screws out - and for bonus, remove it completely and blow through it, make sure its free flowing.. http://faq.f650.com/FAQs/Photos/BrakePh ... Nipple.jpg <-- this Re: Changing front struts over and swapping rear beam - Foxy-jim - 06-03-2012 The bleed nipples normally sheer off which will mean you will need to get another caliper or drill the old one out! Re: Changing front struts over and swapping rear beam - ginge191 - 06-03-2012 Foxy-jim Wrote:The bleed nipples normally sheer off which will mean you will need to get another caliper or drill the old one out! OR just be careful with it - mine moved straight away, no problems at all... as long as the cap has been covered it should be fine - WD40 IF you want.. |
