RE: Jimbos ph3 Hdi to Xud project!! AXLE BUILDING - Jimbo - 29-12-2013

Yeah, next weekend I reckon rip engine out of red one, get headgasket done. Then mock turbo up and downpipe.
Wack on the.bosch then get it in the Hdi.
Cant wait tbh

Ahh and get an oil feed made up.
Gotta ask mr.fish were he got his done

RE: Jimbos ph3 Hdi to Xud project!! AXLE BUILDING - Frosty - 29-12-2013

Need to say about the good news on axle Smile

RE: Jimbos ph3 Hdi to Xud project!! AXLE BUILDING - Jimbo - 29-12-2013

Oh yeah, so my old axle off my black dt has been up frostys for best part of a year. Decided to get it home and take apart.
Turns out to be a really good axle
Plenty of grease in there no wear on bearings or trailing arm pins.

So what im doing now is using this tube
Going press pins out of drum trailing arms and put them in my disc onea and build up with new seals etc. Put my 21mm '6 Torsion bars in and a 24mm ARB..
Using new offset washers, screws seals and caps etc. She should be good for a while Wink

Ill get some pics tomoro nite

RE: Jimbos ph3 Hdi to Xud project!! AXLE BUILDING - Jimbo - 02-01-2014

Slight update (nothing amazing)

Have had a load of parts turn up ready for when the engines out.

Bosch lines
Bosch injectors
Still waitin for pump

Victor reinz headset, head bolts and headgasket
And the turbo

Garrett gt1752s
Not massive but I didnt want sill power.
So should be a comfortable 150 bhp hopefully
And its fair bigger than a t2 and being a gt series its more modern design
Currently making adaptors etc
The standard oil line fits though Wink
And the main reason is there cheap and plenyful.

RE: Jimbos ph3 Xud new turbo and few parts - mikey b - 02-01-2014

A few shiny bits there will make that turbo plate tomoro then get the bugger bolted up this is the t2 with the gt17

RE: Jimbos ph3 Xud new turbo and few parts - Jimbo - 02-01-2014

Yeah cheers for pic mike, clearly see the difference in compressor housings there,
Also forgot to mention that we've had to modify the actuator bracket and am gonna use a t2 actuator.

Not that anyones seems to.comment on these updates :/

RE: Jimbos ph3 Xud new turbo and few parts - Tom - 02-01-2014

Stop moaning Wink That comp housing looks quite a bit bigger on the GT17 :p

RE: Jimbos ph3 Xud new turbo and few parts - mikey b - 02-01-2014

Yep it's fair bit bigger and the hot side not massive so I would say it should spool up pretty well and as this is all going in a phase 3 will be win

RE: Jimbos ph3 Xud new turbo and few parts - Jimbo - 02-01-2014

Yeah she reet, hopefully spool up fast and pull through to 5k should keep me happy and most of all be reliable.
If its anything like frostys k03 ill be happy chappy

Out of interest tom what does your td04 spool at 2.5,2.75k?

RE: Jimbos ph3 Xud new turbo and few parts - zx_volcane - 02-01-2014

Looks like some good progress, bet you can't wait to get it all together

RE: Jimbos ph3 Xud new turbo and few parts - Jimbo - 02-01-2014

Cheers mate, yeah its been too long without an xud.
Should start coming together over next few weeks with some "proper" progress updates

Were thinking of dropping engine out this sat Wink

RE: Jimbos ph3 Xud new turbo and few parts - Tom - 02-01-2014

Yeah about 2.5k i start making boost, i generally go with if im past 3k i can matt the pedal and go for it!

RE: Jimbos ph3 Xud new turbo and few parts - Jimbo - 02-01-2014

Fair enough, im hoping around 2.25k maybe but as ruan said in another post the 1752 as soon as it starts spooling.to max boost is almost instant. However comes in a bit later than say a 2052/6 etc.

RE: Jimbos ph3 Xud new turbo and few parts - jammapic - 02-01-2014

This is an interesting thread!! Should be a nice well rounded package....

RE: Jimbos ph3 Xud new turbo and few parts - padge - 03-01-2014

Should be a nice little spooler Smile

RE: Jimbos ph3 Xud new turbo and few parts - Jimbo - 03-01-2014

Cheers guys, hopefully it all goes in easy enough

RE: Jimbos ph3 Xud new turbo and few parts - mr_fish - 03-01-2014

what does the exhaust side look like? are you making a bigger downpipe?

if it was going in a ph1 then it would be total win Tongue

Sounds like its going to be in sooner than expected?? Smile

RE: Jimbos ph3 Xud new turbo and few parts - Jimbo - 11-01-2014

Bit more progress made this week, the turbo is finished/mounted apart from a downpipe that will be made when its on the car, actuator fitted and oil line all still fits, we welded the plate to the turbo using dissimilar metal arc rods which is only way to weld cast properly. 20 quid for ten rods, not cheap but no its gonna hold and not crack etc.

RE: Jimbos ph3 Xud new turbo and few parts - mikey b - 11-01-2014

Nice pic of me doing a good job of holding the engine will have to fill that pump with fuel hope to get the engine out later

RE: Jimbos ph3 Xud new turbo and few parts - Jimbo - 11-01-2014

With a bit of luck yeah. Frostys coming over to give a hand.

RE: Jimbos ph3 Xud new turbo and few parts - Tom - 11-01-2014

Wait so a gt20 comes on blow before a gt17? Well my turbo education is shot.

RE: Jimbos ph3 Xud new turbo and few parts - Jimbo - 11-01-2014

My turbo is off a petrol car, slightly larger hotside
It may come in real early but I cant say tbh till I drive it

RE: Jimbos ph3 Xud new turbo and few parts - Tom - 11-01-2014

Makes sense. I was just going off a "its smaller must spool faster" knowledge.

RE: Jimbos ph3 Xud new turbo and few parts - padge - 11-01-2014

hotside looks exactly the same as my gt20, had to cut mine down big time.

RE: Jimbos ph3 Xud new turbo and few parts - Jimbo - 11-01-2014

My turbo is near on exact same lenght etc as the t2 Wink

RE: Jimbos ph3 Xud new turbo and few parts - padge - 11-01-2014

mine isn't lol.

RE: Jimbos ph3 Xud new turbo and few parts - Jimbo - 11-01-2014

Yours being off a merc would be longer due to it being down side of engine, theres loads of room on the merc.
Does the downpipe have a vband clamp

RE: Jimbos ph3 Xud new turbo and few parts - padge - 11-01-2014

it just looks the same as yours on the back of the engine.

RE: Jimbos ph3 Xud GT17 project - Jimbo - 22-01-2014

Right on, another update starting to move along now
Engine is out of the red car, me mikey b and Frosty took it out last weekend in minus 1 degrees like real men in the dark, few crap pics but dragged engine subframe and front suspension out in one. Few crap pics

So then got engine back to my garage, I had my bosch to test after having it apart, also Mike wanted to test his 11mm. Had engine on floor not tied down at all just on crane, 5ltr Jerry can and run the engine like that.
Fair to say Mike's11mm created fair coal
[Image: IMG-20140117-WA0004.jpg]

Anyway stripped engine down later that week, ready to paint block build head etc replace gaskets whilst its apart.
Turbo is ready to go. So its a case of put engine together again and fit it finally, I cant wait.
