Yes you can re-use the headbolts

They fit the same as normal headstuds, but you wind the studs into the block first, drop the head on, then put orignal spacers, arp washers and nuts on the studs to torque it down.

JP

Someone must have a hdi headbolt lying around?

Dude its all on the first page, 145-148mm m12x1.25

RE: Group Buy | ARP Head Studs for XUD - zx_volcane - 02-10-2013

yes 147-150mm for xud bolts according to haynes

RE: Group Buy | ARP Head Studs for XUD - HDIkyle - 05-10-2013

Is it possible to fit these without taking the head off. While its in the car timed up if replaced one at a time?

Thats how I did mine, and how the boys in america do it. I did a search of google before I did it and seems legit

Yeah perfectly fine to do that Smile

RE: Group Buy | ARP Head Studs for XUD - Poodle - 05-10-2013

Just whipped one off, i make that 145mm:

Head is E14, and not sure how bolt size is measured, but this is 10mm diameter. Thread is 1.25.

If that's all the same i'll have a set too. Big Grin

RE: Group Buy | ARP Head Studs for XUD - zx_volcane - 05-10-2013

can you measure from under the washer to tip?

this is the diagram for xud from haynes

RE: Group Buy | ARP Head Studs for XUD - Poodle - 05-10-2013

~128mm...

RE: Group Buy | ARP Head Studs for XUD - zx_volcane - 05-10-2013

I can whip a nut off mine tomorrow and measure how much thread is on the top of the stud

You'll need another 30mm is sticking out the top, will this foul anything?

RE: Group Buy | ARP Head Studs for XUD - Poodle - 05-10-2013

Not front side, couldnt say about the back as one engines in the car and the other doesmt have anything on the block... Cant see 30mm being a problem though.

Will see if I cn put the spare engine together a bit tomoz and make sure.

RE: Group Buy | ARP Head Studs for XUD - Poodle - 06-10-2013

Head's back on and there seems to be tons of spare clearance. BUT, having rechecked my blurry-eyed measurements from last night, i'm going to say the thread is x1.5mm... Tried to match it to a wheel bolt and it won't sit right... Sad

RE: Group Buy | ARP Head Studs for XUD - zx_volcane - 06-10-2013

xud is m12 x 1.5

RE: Group Buy | ARP Head Studs for XUD - Poodle - 06-10-2013

That's alright then, sorry was going on what Dan and Tom have said, it's the only info i could find at short notice.

Definitely put me down for a set then!

RE: Group Buy | ARP Head Studs for XUD - zx_volcane - 06-10-2013

RE: Group Buy | ARP Head Studs for XUD - jammapic - 07-10-2013

So we reckon they will fit a hdi then? Count me in....

RE: Group Buy | ARP Head Studs for XUD - zx_volcane - 07-10-2013

I still need to check thread length, will sort that out this morning

RE: Group Buy | ARP Head Studs for XUD - zx_volcane - 07-10-2013

Looks like they'll need spacers for hdi I'm afraid

There is hardly any spare thread on top of the stud - after nut and washer we've got something like 8mm left.

By my calculations based on thread length of hdi bolt being 128mm you'd need spacer of about 18-20mm to make them work

RE: Group Buy | ARP Head Studs for XUD - Poodle - 07-10-2013

I'm pretty sure the hdi bolts are m10 too, whereas these are m12, couldn't find my calipers to confirm though. Its looking a bit doubtful tbh, thanks though.

RE: Group Buy | ARP Head Studs for XUD - jammapic - 07-10-2013

Bugger.

RE: Group Buy | ARP Head Studs for XUD - Poodle - 07-10-2013

JP please do shout if you end up doing something similar for the hdi ones.

RE: Group Buy | ARP Head Studs for XUD - zx_volcane - 07-10-2013

Surely hdi same bolt thread no? M10 seems to skinny

How many people do you think we can get onboard? I can probably get a good price and order like 10 sets and sell them on the No Smoke No Poke shop for you all....

RE: Group Buy | ARP Head Studs for XUD - Poodle - 07-10-2013

I suspect there'll be a few interested in the next six months or so, but then again how often do people follow through with projects... I can think of two people that would almost certainly be interested, but i'll leave them to chime in for themselves.

RE: Group Buy | ARP Head Studs for XUD - jammapic - 07-10-2013

OK... let's see if we can easily make these XUD ones fit a HDi. If not, I'll look to order a few sets...
