Thinking about it, I'm assuming it would be for fraud prevention, as you can say the car got nicked after putting £1,200 of alloys or whatever on it... I'm not so sure... unless you have special "like for like" insurance, mods aren't actually covered by insurance anyway... just need to be declared/push the price up (with some companies). When I declared stuff with Brent, I said I had a spoiler which wasn't fitted yet but will be soon. He said "well we may as well chuck that on now too then". So, I dunno! I can't see too many issues presenting themselves for having too much declared... Thinking about it, I'm assuming it would be for fraud prevention, as you can say the car got nicked after putting £1,200 of alloys or whatever on it... I took out a new policy when I got the estate and asked about declaring mods (with Elephant), and was told to just declare everything I planned to do, as it didn't matter if it wasn't there if something were to happen as they would see it's standard/know it's standard, but if it were on then I'd also be covered. Declaring modifications - kentiiboii - 28-02-2013 I've got a list of jobs for my car which will be done ASAP. Everything is there. Just need the time to fit them. So ill be putting them in that way i know I'm sorted. Declaring modifications - kentiiboii - 28-02-2013 Just on phone to flux. Someone called Daniel. Lets see what they can do for me. ![]() Well asked Daniel to ring me back. But looks like he's gone home :/ RE: Declaring modifications - cwspellowe - 28-02-2013 To be honest Flux provided the cheapest price but with a silly telematics black box thing, Brentacre matched it without that nonsense RE: Declaring modifications - lolsteve - 28-02-2013 Waiting on Prestige to ring me back with a price, hopefully beat what adrian flux quoted me an all RE: Declaring modifications - kentiiboii - 28-02-2013 elephant quoted £831 mods declared provisional license for girlfriend no volentary excess adrian flux quoted £1000 wont insure my mrs see what brentacre can do for me now if not looks like elephant brentacre: £949 insuring me. 21 years younge 3 years no claims driving for 4 years mods declared are: stage 1, 17" peugeot wheels with spacers and stud conversions, lowered on coilovers, exhuast system. £450 excess and no admin charge for new mods how are people my ages getting better quotes? all mine are usually around £1000 RE: Declaring modifications - Oil-burner - 28-02-2013 Jesus h jones, thats insane! RE: Declaring modifications - lolsteve - 28-02-2013 Post code makes a difference RE: Declaring modifications - cwspellowe - 28-02-2013 I live miles outside Glasgow in a quiet town, I'm 26 and the car started life as a poverty spec lxdt RE: Declaring modifications - Dum-Dum - 28-02-2013 (28-02-2013, 12:53 PM)mr_fish Wrote: what do people say about pump modifications?Just told them the truth, Max fuel wound in, governor shimmed, LDA pin settings altered. Postcode and occupation do play a big role though RE: Declaring modifications - Toms306 - 28-02-2013 No voluntary excess? Put it to £25oish and you'll knock a chunk off that elephant quote. Also add your mum, assuming shes not a racing driver, it'll take loads off, about £200 off for me. RE: Declaring modifications - Dum-Dum - 28-02-2013 ^^ Adding a parent dosen't work with alot of the modified companies as they have no experience of driving a modified car. My mum hated driving either of my fast HDis as even tiny amounts of throttle could create huge speed. RE: Declaring modifications - Toms306 - 28-02-2013 My Mum wouldn't be seen dead driving a shitty old diesel Peugeot! ![]() ![]() Declaring modifications - kentiiboii - 28-02-2013 Adrian flux and brentcare wouldn't insure my mrs so that's the price for me alone. I originally had my mum with 13 years driving experience and my stepmom with 15 years experience but the price dropped when I took them off this time. Also with elephant if I take my mrs of it goes up. Strangely enough she was the cheapest person to have on with elephant. RE: Declaring modifications - Slam Wagon - 28-02-2013 Dont forget that the specialist cover will actually include your mods, thats why they want to know all the details. But the standard insurers are happy to charge you more than normal take a rough idea of the mods and cover you but they dont cover the mods. I know this is true for admiral as i was with them but now with flux and i made sure to ask how they sort replacement and he said mods would be replaced with brand new parts. Declaring modifications - Jonny b - 28-02-2013 Also some specialists won't charge for changes to policy! RE: Declaring modifications - darrenjlobb - 28-02-2013 Sorry off topic, But JJ / anyone else, do you know anywhere where you can get really short term cover? so like a weekend cover or something? Just thinking need to insure myself in some car other than our landrover for FCS weekend etc RE: Declaring modifications - vlj - 28-02-2013 (28-02-2013, 09:12 PM)darrenjlobb Wrote: Sorry off topic, tempcover.com is pretty good brentacre have a temp cover thing online on their website also just ringing your insurers (dependent on whom) and they usually offer really good rates on temp insurance RE: Declaring modifications - Dum-Dum - 28-02-2013 with sky (my insurer) its about £50 a week for anything ive actually bothered getting insured on (ive got 3rd party on other cars) RE: Declaring modifications - vlj - 28-02-2013 (28-02-2013, 10:01 PM)Dum-Dum Wrote: with sky (my insurer) its about £50 a week for anything ive actually bothered getting insured on (ive got 3rd party on other cars) A week? 200 pound a month? 2400 a year? RE: Declaring modifications - Curt - 28-02-2013 Temp cover is always over the top, otherwise I guess it's not worth their time RE: Declaring modifications - Niall - 28-02-2013 (28-02-2013, 09:12 PM)darrenjlobb Wrote: Sorry off topic, Aviva are quite good i think. They quoted me £28 for a weekend on a 6 i was going to buy for parts but had to drive back. RE: Declaring modifications - WiNgNuTz - 28-02-2013 Flux cover me to drive any other car - with the owners permission - with third party insurance. Surely this eradicates the need to use temp cover? Does your insurance policy not cover you on other cars as well? my last "eCar" policy did the same thing. RE: Declaring modifications - Toms306 - 28-02-2013 This is one thing elephant are good for....temp insurance on pretty much any car (from the 106 NAD to the modded golf) for £20 a week!! Unfortunately they don't seem to offer docs on thier policies though. ![]() Declaring modifications - vlj - 28-02-2013 (28-02-2013, 10:38 PM)WiNgNuTz Wrote: Flux cover me to drive any other car - with the owners permission - with third party insurance. But if, like in Nialls case, he were buying a car to break - it is likely the car didnt have a policy held on it and thus your insurance wouldn't work on that principal - the car you will be driving needs a policy on it RE: Declaring modifications - WiNgNuTz - 28-02-2013 (28-02-2013, 10:46 PM)vlj Wrote:(28-02-2013, 10:38 PM)WiNgNuTz Wrote: Flux cover me to drive any other car - with the owners permission - with third party insurance. This is a very fair point. ![]() RE: Declaring modifications - Niall - 28-02-2013 problem with 'any car' insurance is the car has to have a proper policy on it for your any car one to be valid and if you crash it, you have to pay out of your own pocket to repair it RE: Declaring modifications - WiNgNuTz - 28-02-2013 Don't crash then! ![]() RE: Declaring modifications - darrenjlobb - 28-02-2013 I dont have an insurance policy at all though so need just a temp cover to drive for week or something to cover like FCS etc. My car ran out of insurance months ago / didnt renew it and all the farm stuff is sperate on fleet. |
