This is now on hold after someone decided to pinch my trailer the other night. It will continue once i have suitably secured my unit and the surrounding yard.

Get into those box sections behind the bump stops whilst you got everything out of the way.

You'll regret not doing it

These horrible feckers....

Thanks ben, what did you use? i was looking at those rust traps yesterday and thinking i might invest in a dremel tool with a long wire brush cup attachment?

The car is being fully stripped underneath (much inspiration taken from yourself sir!) so the bumpstops will be removed and everything in & around that area will be cleaned and painted Smile the floorpan will be going back onyx but arches are staying white, i like the clean / motorsport look it gives.

RE: Matts Onyx Rallye. 182.1bhp & 154.5ft/lb Wilwoods & axle arrived! Welding finished! - Ben_w - 02-05-2016

Exactly that....local toolstation place I think it is do a box of wire brush attachments for drills. I used those. Dremel stuff will be even better I'd guess. Chuck loads of Deox gel in there too.

Be prepared for the bump stop bolts to shear. In that blind hole is a welded captive nut the the bolt under the bump stop (which holds the cup) bolts into. As they are rusty as feck, I sheared one bolt, even taking it easy and undoing, then doing back up a bit, then undoing some more.

Drilling it out was fun.... :/

Just had a look.....£23 a side isn't too bad actually.....my cuos hadn't rusted away, they were still in pretty good nick...still, out of the factory they weren't pitted so I'll be buying a pair of those new ones! OEM pug too

Well i suppose this is due a small update,

Having done a few small jobs to this recently i have now discovered more rust issues on the front end, namely the inner strut turrets where it meets the inner wing, its going to be an absolute pig to repair it in situ, very disheartening if im honest so for now the car can carry on sitting on axle stands feeling sorry for itself while i decide what course of action to take with it.

I'm really sorry to hear that Matt. I was looking forward to seeing her again at FCS, but it's got to be done right. Don't lose hope, take your time, go get drunk or something. That usually cheers me up!

It's my anniversary with the missus on FCS day, not going means I'm actually going to have to do something for her! That Rallye has cursed us both!

Some slight sliver of hope....

The newly found rust isn't as bad as first thought, but still requires more time and attention than i can spare just at the moment. Hopefully i can get abit more done over the weekend and find some motivation for it.

Cheers fella! Was genuinely close to giving up with it but i suppose it doesn't really matter how long it takes, the end result will be worth it Smile

Been meaning to update this..

After more poking around the front end i have concluded the rust issue is actually alot less worse than it looks and isnt actually causing any agro, just needs sanding and painting ASAP before it does develop! luckily i have caught it early on Smile Big sigh of relief there!

Just waiting for access to the ramp really to give the underside the same treatment iv'e given my red rallye recently, then i can start bolting all the shiny bits on and get this car back how i want it and on the road! Big Grin

Thread revival!

Still got this, its still awaiting attention but lo & behold its more solid than my red one so will concentrate my efforts on getting this one repaired for this years show season and so i can actually enjoy it once again Smile I have an overkill stash of parts awaiting to be fitted inc the wilwoods, bilsteins, stef refurbished rear beam and some freshly powdercoated goodies & polybushed wishbones etc etc just need to make some time and exert some effort!

Then it should just need a cambelt & service before chucking it in for an MOT Smile

Cheers mate Smile I was talking to a fellow collector of rusty peugeots last night and he made me an offer i couldnt refuse on the red rallye so thats now as good as sold! Currrently in talks for a bulk deal on the cossack grey S16 too as i simply havent got the time these days to devote to so many projects.
