We've got a Nikon J2, just never use it! Would that be any good to start with or would I need something better?

You could start photography with a disposable - makes no difference. It's about getting out there and just getting some pictures.

Best piece of advice I was ever given, especially if you're shooting a subject - think like you have film and every picture counts and costs. Taking a thousand photos of something at different angles usually leaves you with a thousand picutres of stuff at a boring angle.

Find yourself a subject and capture it in the most interesting way possible.

EDIT: Oh and never be scared of getting up close to the subject.

Good quality advice this! Another tip would be don't get too stuck in a rut shooting the same sort of thing all the time, try and mix it up a bit, keeps things interesting. Wink

Glenfinnan Viaduct 1987 - behind a big throbbing Diesel (type 37 ?) - there was a steam special on that day and I do have a pic 'somewhere' Smile

Same trip - Ben Nevis

I am trying to sort my photobucket library into some sort of order LOL
So am just posting some random shots as I sort into files Smile

Foreground is an Airship Mooring (tie down) Block - Background are the 2 Airship Hangars at (ex) RAF Cardington,Beds
The fence posts are normal height so gives some idea of the size of the block.

Wow, that photo of the Glenfinnan Viaduct in 1987 is so amazing, I was 1 year old then!!

I absolutely love seeing old photos. 10, 15+ year old photos, older the better. Just love it! This is one of the main reasons I love photography this much, I hope to one day look back on my own photos and admire them in years to come!

This is a photo I took of it on my trip up there 2 weeks ago Smile

Yeah old photos are fascinating - the glenfinnan pic was taken with my old Ricoh compact 35mm camera which I mostly used for gliding  pics !

This one I took at 45mph with my 5 year old sony ericsson phone - it has an 8 megapixie lens and always takes great shots sometimes Smile

I always got mixed up with some of the Diesel classes, the Deltics sound fantastic - and great to watch a very cold start on one Smile

Still cannot find the Steam engine photo from glenfinnan station - hopefully it will be 'somewhere'
