hi i currently have a china blue 99' GTI-6 which has been tuned to 194bhp according to my rolling road printouts. well as i have just came out of work and it has recently developed a very loud tapping from the top end i will be selling it on and buying a d turbo for cheap motoring.
Welcome along.

Tapping you say?
Reminds me of one Ed Doe... That illusive Astor '6... Can hear the tappets now.

Anyways... Get some pics up of the '6 man. Would be good to see how it looks before it goes!
Welcome along. Mods? Interesting to see what got you to 194bhp Smile
Not china blue by any chance is it?

Haha I must have not had my eyes open.
Wonder what the reg is?
f*ck you Andy! Tongue

Video of the tap? Have the pulleys slipped?
What mods have you got to get it to 194bhp?

Shame about the tapping though allthough becoming far to common now Sad
I'm pretty sure I know which car this is. Is it xxxxTAC? Smile

this china has been round 306gti6, got brought and sold many times.also heard it got own by a couple of pricks fuked it Sad
That's if it's TAC Sam.... But yeah it has been round the houses. Was owned by Roland Rat who treated it to power flex wishbone bushes and b6 suspension all round with each springs. It was pretty quick, but I've certainly seen it on eBay with every pug badge, the clones and iirc the petrol trims were kermit green....
Apparently had the cams took out too, so won't be 194bhp anymore.
yes it is TAC like i said its the power according to the printouts but im not convinced. my friends gti-6 with a full exhaust and a filter is only just slower than it. but then on the other hand it sits alongside a civic type r. so i have no idea. yeah like someone else commented it is lowered on bilstein suspension with refurbished cyclones on it. generally its not been a bad car in the time i have owned it. i do have a video of the tapping but i dont know if i can put it on here its on my iphone.
Ahhh tac! That's a shitter. Still can't believe someone took the cams and and tried to flog it with same
Power
Shame its tapping really, I did quite like this car when Ratty owned it.

not overly bothered though i didnt pay more for it than other gti-6s were selling for and it looked the nicest. it has been a very good and fun car until i lost power and it decided to tap its nuts off. im syncing my phone to my laptop then ill try to upload the video to here of it running. sounds rough. its definitely a top end knock. my friend reckons its bent or snapped a valve or something.
heres the engine sound video

yeah i know. i have always said i don't think they're in there but im not fussed like i say it is still a fun car to drive whatever power its been running.
Have you checked the plugs?
Could be the bottom end if it isn't bent valves
definitely tapping from the top. no i havnt checked the plugs yet i have heard it could be loose plugs though? when i was driving it i lost power, it was trying to cut out and was spluttering. i was only a mile from home when it went so just got it home and its sat there since
Whip the plugs out first.
is it common for the plugs to give in or come loose on these then?
Talking can be caused by a loose spark plug. If it is the top end gone, replace the whole engine, as it won't be long before the bottom end goes aswell. Mine did the same
Matt your bottom end went cause you bent a rod going through a lake....!

Definitely check the plugs before writing it off though! And it's not a guaranteed bottom letting go if the top end has gone.
Nope. Bottom ends tend to go not long after the top end goes. Proven fact.

Mine was just speeded up by the fact I drive it through a flood

No it's not Matt your talking out of your arse. Yours only went because you hydro locked it. How can a valve hitting the top of a piston cause a bottom end to go? Rods are substantially stronger than valve stems!
I'm actually not talking out of my arse. It happens. I have no idea why. But in most cases of top end going the bottom has gone slightly after
And I assume that is also based on the same logic that eds Astor taps because he crashed his Diablo right?
Knew I wasn't talking shit and had actually seen it somewhere
