Picked up some wicked light C5 alloyies today...60quid for 5 with tyres...so will be flogging the tyres asap!

well chuffed...4.7kg a wheel, shaving nearly 6kg per corner from my OZ ones!

Guess I will need some alloy bolts for these are the steel ones will shred the taper??

If so...can someone pipe up with the size...isnt it M12x1.25?...but what angle is the taper?!...isnt it 60degrees?

Were did you find them from? wouldn't mind finding some my self
lotsa digging on the web...guy was scrapping his car due to belt failure...
hard to come by though

its the tapered washered bolts I am having more difficulty finding
Mate i wouldnt be bothering rebuilding HDi gears into an XUD case as the HDi box bolts straight on once youve swapped the fork over.

As for bolts they are M12x1.25 and they are just a standard 60* taper.

If you call www.speedshack.co.uk they will be able to sort you out the correct bolts, theyll probably have them in stock and be able to post them next day.
Miscommunicado there...I aint doing that, I have a hdi box and will be rebuilding it before fitting it

the bolts need to have a tapered washer...due to the wheels...

but weirdly enough I have just been exchanging emails with speedshack! lol but thanks anyway
have to get a pic up later...

but put in new gauge today as other one faulty...sorted some rattly trim and tatty wiring at same time...

well happy as my gauge, stereo and dash lights are all colour coordinated now...
and when I turn the dimmer right down...all goes dark apart from the gauge which glows red...ace

I am such a child
Here you go. about 50mm.

[attachment=5079]
nice one chap...repp'd...

may ask for it to be done again with me new rims tho!!!

looks good actually...may go for -40mm
just back from tyre shop...

and got the scales out...I am amazed...

first thing is how heavy a tyre is...the 4.7kg new rims now weigh 12.9kg with the 195/50/15 tyres!

but to compare, the OZ 15" wheels on the same scales weigh 11.1kg...WITHOUT a tyre!!!!!

so I am saving roughly 6kg a corner on unsprung weight...

win of the month!
so...got me 900w sub in...think I be ditching the 6x9s...getting some 6.5inch to match the fronts

who needs a back massage when you have 900watts of bass! lol

also stopped moping around the house today and got my hands dirty...

first beheaded the 2.1...

and as you can see, as per lots of peoples thoughts, the exhaust valve is the same size as the inlet valves...only theres twice as many inlet...so some work to be done on the exhaust side of the head!!

but head looks real clean, so think the bloke wasnt lying when he said it had done 75k
bores are like new too...amazing...

so cleaned up the block...and painted
[Image: 20130222_181731_zps37b3606d.jpg]

and did the same with the hdi box, stripped and cleaned and painted...

so this is where I am at...

waiting on the headgasket to come through...will do the headwork in meantime

List of to gets:
water pump
cambelt tensioner
crank seal
clutch
i want to paint my engine now Sad

interesting to see inside the xud11 lump though Smile
New shells n honing ftw
That engine looks like it has been rebuilt before! Must admit, i really want to paint my engine. Will tidy it all right up!

I was considering this...but it seems pointless to be honest...

I will be checking endfloat etc etc but the honing marks and what I have found so far bring to mind "if it aint broke, dont try to fix it'

Now I dont normally use that expression, but it feels right after inspection the bores

The paint is more to pinpoint any leaks etc in future...i am no engine colour whore...more to help me...looks tidy though too!

QUESTION:
been a long time since I spotted a xud9 lump inside...what are the top of the pistons like?!
the xud11 ones are surprising flat
xud9 pistons have the valve outlines on the top, like you say, xud11 pistons are pretty flat!
I thought as much...
The xud11 piston top has a small indentation, but not much, .5mm perhaps, and it looks more for the fuel port
IMHO I wouldn't paint the block black. Won't be able to spot oil leaks.
who says its staying black Tongue
I wouldnt of painted the crank shaft oil seal or the end of the crank either, asking from trouble imo
aye but I be polishing the crank end up for the new fly' and replacing the seal...so for the fiddly job of masking it off I thought to leave old seal in and spray over for now
Paint the block insame pink haha
ooo good idea...

if I was barbie...but Im not...so...no lol
started on the head today...

I felt lazy if I didnt after ECP got the headgasket n water pump to me at 9:15am this morning when I only ordered saturday!

amazeballs

Anyway...studs for wheels arrived too...should try them out tomorrow just for looks.

Head in good condition...glad I decided for full strip though...at least 2mm wall of gunk on inlets...yeauch
stripped all down...all 12...and started on exhaust port lips
OK...

gota bit further today...very time consuming work, ruddy flithy gunk...anyway I'll get to that...

first got the 1st coat of the final colour for the engine block...

Needs another coat to finish...but looking better!

Next came the head.
These are some before pics...
inlets all looked like this...

amazed it even ran and amazed at how clean the pistons/head and exhaust ports were in comparison.
Next came cleaning up all the surfaces, flatting, removing crap etc etc.
Also took away some manufacturing edges in the exhaust port to help the single valve/ports out a bit.

Quite surprised though how smooth the inlet and exhaust ports already were...did a few xr2i heads in my early years...and they manufacturing edges were awful, ports were so rough you could hide a mouse in the groves...no so with this head. Pleasantly surprised.
I wasnt going to do any work on the inlet ports anyway...but it would have been a waste of time if I had decided to!

Heres the ports after degunking etc

exhaust

inlet
[Image: 20130227_162519_zpsf756a076.jpg]

And the head all cleaned up...

Got most of the last bits from MrRoyalfail today...so heres my current box of to do bits...

[Image: 20130227_161933_zpse18d6932.jpg][Image: 20130227_161914_zpse8305e48.jpg][Image: 20130227_161959_zpsafeb7b1c.jpg][Image: 20130227_161816_zpsc4230275.jpg]

the spoken of special wheel bolts...

and a HUGE water pump!

All I need is injector seals and washers and I have all the parts for the rebuild...but they can wait till later if needs be. (oh apart from a clutch...still need to find one)

got me one of these too....

but it wont be staying ridiculous red...will be toned down (and cleaned) for installation.

Thats about it for now...back on it tomorrow...lap the valves in, new valve stem seals and cam seals and the head can be put back together and then reunited with its bottom half
nice work, what did you use to clean the head? might do the same on mine as i know theres a lot of gunk in there Sad
a whole host of things...some cloth on a screwdriver to start with...it was that thick

then combo of scrubbing brushes, soft wire brushes, engine degreaser, brake cleaner, alloy wheel cleaner, pressure washer...
gun wash would be 10 times easier but I didnt have any!!!

I finished off with some wet n dry with double TT

I used reducing grades of wet n dry paper with doubleTT again on the flat surfaces down to 800 grit for he main head surface. then brake cleaner for full final wash off
Got a little further today...
things taking longer but only because I am taking my time in getting it all as I want it to be...could be thrown togetheir quicker I know...but thats not my goal

Got to work on the valves and seats...
valves first need a good clean...note the before and after!!

began to lap the valves in...heres halfway stage...hopefully you can see the difference!!

and finished:

Next step was to clean the top of the head...cam...cam seats etc...
and oil it up and replace the seal...

ready to go!

these also arrived in post today...

VERY pleased, I know there is better out there...but I am trying to find a comprimise between wooly handling and rock hard ride AND this whole set is normally around £170...I bought it brand new and posted for £75.
