Ladies and gentlemen, I give to you..

One 5 mile old turbo.

As i'm sure you'll see from the following pics, that's not supposed to be like that, that's supposed to be attached to that, and that's generally f*cked. How to kill a turbo in 10 minutes...

By the looks of things, two fails on my part lead to the destruction of the blower. Number 1: threading a compressor housing bolt hole and not fixing it. And number 2: The bolt next to it, having not had a washer due to moving the actuator bracket, I used a random washer I had lying around that wasn't the same spec as the others and, being right next to the newly missing bolt, formed a weak point that bent the washer under boost pressure, which in turn lifted the housing, grinded the compressor wheel and eventually snapped the shaft.

This then lead to bursting the oil seals on the CHRA, filling the inlet with oil and, today, causing the engine to run away after fitting the new turbo. Rough guesstimate is there's between 1-2L of oil in the intercooler and lower pipework.

FML.
Reach around?

Honestly that is a real shitter mate. Totally sucks
Yeah least I can see what happened now anyway. Can't run the new one though until I get all the oil out of the inlet, it ran away on me after a couple of minutes idling. Must be loads of oil in there still.
Shitter! Can't be good, at least you know why it's failed.
Nuh-uh, no good but managed to stall it before it did any damage.

Getting seriously f*cked off with this, i have this nagging feeling it's never going to run right...
Sure it will mate. Won't take a lot. Just take a step back and realise how much of a win car you have. It will definatley run right. It's got to be front of stand fcs 13 Wink
Haha in the last month it's not even left the village...

Hmm I need a new actuator and these Kinugawa adjustable ones are tempting me massively..

Is it worth the shiny bits..?

Shh, we've already said that the car seems to throw a fit at the thought of being in England! It might hear you and do more damage Undecided
he does live in England doesn't he? . . . or is this one of those lame savvan fairy jokes where you think anything above Birmingham is Scotland? . . .:p
Wow, that's a mess! Confused. Lol at the compressor fins though....don't think I'd ever go defilter if they're that weak!
Lol, that weak? Theyve smashed into solid metal at 100000rpm Tom, pretty sure you'd look the same if it happened to you!
Anything above Leeds is Scotland, get it right! Here, I drew an accurate and completely 100% entirely factual map to help you.

Maybe that came across wrong lol. I was just thinking that like one stone and it could easily end up looking the same! Confused
hahahaha . .lol . . .thanks for that Scott! . . . .i'd been labouring under the misapprehension of that other border that you just quashed being the real one all my life . ..thank you for re-educating me . . . Big Grin

You may also be shocked to learn that there isn't actually a huge black squiggly line darting through the countryside which mark borders between countries and counties.

Even more astonishing though - there isn't a great big read sign written in the south of 'Wales' (more on 'Wales' in our next geography lesson!) which points out that everyone in a large radius are farmers.
back to school for me then . . .Confused . . .lol
Och aye, ne'er knew i were Scottash.
I'll put money on also it being the boost pressure shoving on the housing as well, I rekon it's a combo of all 3 that's caused this bud...

Also, don't think due to 1 popped turbo it'll never run right... Perseverance is key, after 23 turbo changes, I know this.
Yeah but I need to clean the oil out of the inlet, found a puddle under an elbow next to the inlet manifold.

It tried to run away yesterday so it looks like the whole inlet needs stripped and cleaned. Can not be arsed...
Surely you just need to disconnect the lowest pipe? It doesnt have to be spotlessly clean. The lowest point of mine was the bottom of the SMIC (clearly it wont be the same on yours lol), got a good litre or so of oil out of there and ran it afterwards with no issues. Well, until the other issue but you know what I meant.
So what you're saying is don't do what you did? lmao

Honestly it all needs cleaned, the pipes all the way from the turbo, through the fmic and up to the neck of the inlet mani are saturated. Really don't want any of that shit in there.

Plus it looks like I'll be needing an impromptu oil change too. FML. Saying that it's been running nearly 6 months now so probably due a change..
Oil change? It sounds like most of its already out. Tongue

And fair enough, if it was me I'd just drain the lowest point.of the intake and let the turbo blow the rest through, it'll just smoke a little the first time lol.
You fancy selling me the actuator and the oil return flange thingymabob? Tongue
Ricky.. no. Oil return flange I bought a new billet one off eBay anyway. Actuator is a vacuum one, you can have it if you want but I dont know why you would!
