Full Version: help! tappity noise cuts out at 3k rpm !!

as the title says its the most annoying noise thats hard to trace!
accelerating-under load it does a "tik-a tik-a tik-a tik" faster and faster until the rpm needle is precicely at 3100 then it stops instantly!!

what can it be? a friend found slight diesel weepage around 1st and 2nd injectors, he said change the copper washers which i did' the weepage has stopped but the noise is the same.

im convinced its not tappit related, i put in some worn engine oil treatment, no change plus why would tappit noise simply cut off at 3100k rpm every time guaranteed??

could it be, fuel pump? egr valve? turbo?

oh yeah its a 2000 2.0 hdi !!

any suggestions greatly appreciated !!!
Injectors. Search for more info, or look through this section a bit (second page in particular).

wow weird! so they must go into a different phase at 3100 im guessing?!!
lucky my local scrapyard has a few 306's
are the injectors likely to be the same on say an old 306 td like a phase 1 ?!
my scrapyard will only charge a couple of quid for a set of injectors so i can grab a few sets!!, i got a 306td fuel pump once for £5 !!
there are also two 406 td's and a xantia td, will they have the same injectors?!
I had this problem took ages to find a solution and that was... Split up with my mrs!

Serious! I split up with my mrs go really pissed off and upset thrashed the living day lights out of the car and all of a sudden it went bang!!! Temp gauge went up loads of black smoke from exhaust covered window and it cut out. I checked everything still had water and things so I let it cool down tried starting her up and she hasn't cut out since. Smile.

i wonder if the problems with mine are down the 2 old lady owners before me that never pushed the car all the years they had it!!

Hdi and Dt injectors are different so not interchangeable I'm afraid, stick a thread up I'm sure someone has some laying about.

With the tapping I'd suggest a particular '6 at that.
It's the preinjection stops after the 3k or whatever
Defo your injectors mate, dont bother changing them, they can quite happily tap for 100,000miles with no real loss in performance and ive only been in one HDi (that didnt have a refurbed set) that didnt tap

Refurbed is the way forward if you want to shut them up, ask cully and poodle.
dont bother with refurbed to expensive and my set only lasted 12months before they started tapping again
cheaper option is a low milage set of 076 injectors from a newer 307 "110" Wink
ebay is your friend

if you do a search i posted a list of compatible injectors for our DW10 engine and where they can be found
