So a few weeks ago I thought I’d try to modernise the interior a bit with some white LED bulbs for the clocks etc. I only installed the ones in the time and temp bit just to see what they’d look like. Within a matter of hours I could smell burning and once I pulled the time and temp bit back out this is what I found...

Now I’m not saying that all LEDs will do this but I bought a kit off a website that said it was specific for a 306. If anyone’s planning to do this just take this thread as a warning!
I put some in speedo clocks of a previous car and they started a small fire.....
well . . . . . . . and there's me thinking LED's run cool Big Grin . . . looks like they've placed a higher drain on something, i'm not big on electronics but that's my guess lol
I put LED units in my zx about 9 months ago, no fires here.
Like I say I’m not saying they won’t work for some but this was just put on as a warning for some who may be a bit sceptical! Haha
As you say this I have had a wiff off burning I’m going to take a look on the back of speedo and clocks to check....
my understanding is as follows...

leds have much less resistance in them than filament bulbs. normally they need a resistor inline. this is where the difference comes between some bulbs being canbus and some not. and why some led lightingboards work and others dont.

I havent had any issues with led bulbs in the clock before. Ran some for many years and all was fine. If they were sold as being 306 specific i would definitely be complaining! Maybe it was just a bad batch. Who knows!
boards burn out cause you short the tracks
you do this by not inserting the lamp correctly or try to fit them with the power on

basicly the board is a piss poor design
