So I've decided to change my timing belt myself. I've looked through the guides and the video on YouTube, I think I understand almost all of it (and that it will definitely take 3 times as long as I expect it to!).

Only thing is undoing the crankshaft pulley bolt - I have an electic impact wrench that I was planning to use, but I'm worried about turning the engine backwards or winding up the springs in the clutch etc.

Is just using the impact wrench without taking any other precautions a good idea?

Also how tight do you do the aux belt tensioner up afterwards?
So electirc impact gun is perfect to get them done up. Dont worry about winding the engine backwards wih one of those. As for the aux belt grab the longest part of the belt once its on and twist gently. You should be able to turn it 45 degree. Any more and its to loose and less and its to tight. Genral rule of thumb

Cheers! So don't need to bother holding on the brakes or anything then - is that because an impact wrench just sort of hits the bolt rather than turning it?
if its good enough yes.
