the gfs laptop is seriously f*cked.
doesn't want to connect to the internet properly.
it will connect to the router, but wont identify it, it just says un-identified all the time, and says its got a local only connection.

now we take the same laptop to my dads and it has no problem connecting. just connects straight away and shes on the internet no problem

she has a hp g7000 running windows vista

what the hell is it?
FOOOOOOBBYYYYY!!!!!!!
Ide say the router is the problem? can you connect to the net on a dif computer? And are you with Virgin as they're rubbish

By router i mean the internet provider..... Ive had the same problem but its just because we have no connection in the house as virgin decide to f*ck up. keeps happening they don't care
lol fozzy how did you know i was with virgin, yeah i can connect on my laptop, and the gfs sister can connect of her netbook, and we can all connect on the iphones, its just my gfs laptop(and her mums, but they exactly the same laptop)

such a pain in the ass as constantlygot to drive to my dads to use the internet to update software or do itunes stuff
too much porn...picks up adware and messes with router settings...get this all the time..nightmare. get anti-spyware up and running and do a full scan and delete all threats.
Fooby wont be able to save you this time. Hes ACTUALLY at work. and yes, I have checked, pigs can now fly. and phase 2s dont have perpetually broken clutches.
Lap top may be f*cked but you still have over 10% of the total posts on this forum.

Cant be that bad.
Most likely the router mate, especially if supplied by Virgin. Do you know what router model it is? Next time I'm down, or if Fooby is around, it might be possible to install DD-WRT on it, which is a custom firmware which is much more reliable. I had similar issues with my phone and my mum's phone connecting to my router [insert HTC fail comment here] but it was actually an issue with the router, which was solved when I upgraded to DD-WRT.
my laptop keeps doing this (windows 7), to fix it open the network sharing center (i think its the same on vista)

on the right hand side there should be Access type, Homegroup and Connections, where it says Connections click on the connection and select the diagnose button, i think it will just reset the network adapter and u may need to do this everytime, if u find a permanent fix let me know lol
Scott that would be awesome. And Steve I've tried all of that. Nothing works. Think a phone call to virgin may be in order
virgin are a load of B***cks, id recommend asking for a new router/modem ours is an all in once router/modem and the first two we had were faulty, the one we have now seems to be working ok tho (touch wood).

hope u get it sorted dude
err matt, you never told it me was virgin?

well, that or i wasnt listening.

I'll do what scott suggest next time i/him are round. Easy win
Eeek. Ive just switched to Virgin. What have I done...
The older virgin routers are utter shite. I think they have just replaced them with new model though as when we switched over to 100mb, there engineer came round and swapped our router for a different one which has worked perfectly!
Niall got a pic of your router? See if it's the same as mine?

Some are, although if you do what I mentioned and install a custom firmware they're much better Wink Especially when you complain the first one is broken, and they send another for free and you then have two routers around the house providing the same network to boost the signal
Could just buy a decent router and use theirs as a modem? I'm now using a time capsule and it's much quicker than their router. And I also get a signal half way down my road lol.
