The cheap estate...

Central locking either pops back up or doesnt work at all.
Lad says sometimes it unlocks itself overnight.

He found broken boot loom which fixed the boot not locking which I had failed to notice tbh when I had it.

Front door looms have no broken wires.

Any ideas? Poor lad is losing will to live
door looms or door closed switch
As above ^

But generally is door looms .....
Mine did exactly the same, and was door loom..

It's almost always the door loom... Get the door off and have a better look.

Door closed switch??

He has had both front doors off
ph2-ph3 door lock incorporates a switch to say the door is closed
or if its ph2 and older they have door pins

Ah ok...always wondered where that is on ph3...

Its ph3 anyway.

So...trying to think how to diagnose that??
Does the courtesy light come on and go off as expected when opening/closing doors?

Ah yeah ...thats an obvious thing to check!
When inside the car, ignition on...it never works from either front door.
Ignition off...it either works or pops back up
Any other ideas???
wiring or lock switches, nothing else it could be.

rare for the PH3 to have wiring issues as there's no rigid point in the loom where they go through the pillar and flex.
It really isn't rare for ph3s to have loom issues, almost every one I've bought has needed loom repairs, and I hate wiring lol.

Other than the most common wiring fault ever...the bit between the pillar and door!?!

He has already fixed one broken wire in boot loom and one in passenger front door loom.

Its odd that it is never consistent with its faults and does different things when ignition is off/on
Any more ideas to pin pointing the issue?
He is still struggling.

Im here n he is in bristol
There's a broken wire somewhere. I've never seen a 306 door module fail (odd as Ford and VAG ones break quite often lol), if you can't visually see it, you'll need to get the multimeter out and test them individually. Only other thing to check would be the earth for the BSI (sorry welshpug Tongue ), I'm not sure which it uses though.
Is it under the rear seat or part of "bsi" under dash do you know Tom?
Yeah it's under the dash, part of the immobiliser box on the ph3.

It's directly behind the cigarette lighter area... PITA to get to as it's secured by three screws from underneath, so centre console needs to come out, then pretty much everything around the cigarette lighter / headunit.

I would place my bet on it being a broken door loom. On mine, some wires were sheared completely, on others, the vinyl outer cracked slightly, allowing moisture in and corroding the wires.

The door looms are shit as there's no strain relief on there.
As I, and everyone else, thought...

Wiring fault in door loom.

But one he had fixed...drop of solder got in the plug. Shorting.

Now just left with it unlocking when using windows!
Ok....its back!
Doh.
He has a dodgy window switch...sent him a spare...think it maybe connected?
It even locks itself now
Is the door plug definitely clean now? And no bare wires chafing/shorting in the middle of the loom?

I don't see how the window switch would be connected to central locking, its not like these have global closure on the fob lol.
Anyone know a way to disable temp?
I've got the same issue! won't lock on the key fob but will when you use the key in the drivers door! Once drivers door is locked the central locking works as normal someone has been messing as the exterior handle has been changed I guess it must be a door look cable as stated above off to investigate I'll let you know what I find!

Funny enough non of the fuses which, according to autodata and 306 handbook are for CL, when pulled actually do anything
it wont start if the cl fuse is pulled btw.

Bet it will Wink
if you have don away with the immo security just unplug the security box in the lower dash that will stop the CL
